As you know, my 2011 does not have the elusive pigtail. I was determined to find that little piggy when I installed my Hitch-Doc and I removed all the tape from that harness... Apparently that little piggy was at the store when my bike was being built. I do wear glasses, but I'm not blind... Yet!

Turk, if you have an earlier model bike than the '11 or '12 you won't have that pig tail back there. My '08 doesn't have that 4 wire connector. I'm using the 4710 controller, but I'm using it mostly for the function of making the brake lights blink 3 times before coming on solid and I also did the trunk light conversion to go along with it. The 4710 was mainly developed for the flashing brake light safety feature not just to convert additional lights.

I would also use a controller such as the Kury unit, or Back Off series, if I wanted the extra visibility of the blinking. That is definitely a purposeful use of such a unit. But, I didn't need that, and from what I've read over the years on these forums, a lot of folks running the 99 LED mod (or variations thereof) aren't using the extra blinking either. For them, it's not necessary to buy a controller.

The wires you are talking about by the speakers I believe are for the CB/Intercom passenger controls.

Glad I ran into this thread. I will check my 2013 tomorrow to see if I have that pigtail. But my question is this. I pull a trailer, so where do you run the wires from the pigtail down to the trailer hitch?

Remember that it's just a pigtail, there is no connector installed on it. Just an offshoot from the main rear harness along the right side of the bike under the seat (NOT in the trunk). It's wrapped in black tape, and contains four wires, each of which is folded over and taped over with a small piece of blue electrical tape. It definitely came from the factory this way. No need to unwrap anything to find it. Just follow your rear harness from in front of the saddle bag... it's just a few inches back when it branches off.

I have no doubt that it wasn't included on the earlier models, but since mine is an '11, I can't see them only doing this for a few bikes of that year. It must be on all 11 and newer.

I'm THINKING of installing the 4710 on my 2013. I've read enough to be satisfied its a good mod. what I haven't read besides the ease of installation is which wires to connect to. The color code would be of a great help along with pictures of the newer Visions.

That was 2013 when Turk posted about the pigtail. It's on other threads where he says the pigtail is only there because it's part of the Vision Sequential blinker mod on his bike.

There is NOT a factory trailer pigtail wiring harness of any kind on the Vision from the factory
