Good perspective norcan. I do use the friction zone to control at low speeds, it makes the bike much easier to control in slow maneuvers. Have you ever watched the "Ride Like a Pro" series of videos, they explain why you really should use the friction zone of a clutch for better control. I intentionally focused on doing it today and was surprised how much better control I had under normal low speed driving conditions.

I too purchased the Ride Like a Pro V DVD. Its great to see there are a number of Visions and XC in the video. Tomorrow, I am going to setup my markers (cut in half tennis balls) and practice the first few lessons. One of the real keys for me that helps tremendously is the use of the friction zone and head/eye direction. I need to work on the rear brake.

Is there any spec on how the linkage should be set? I looked in the SM and couldn't seem to find it. Mine is getting difficult to shift in many of the gears unless I am RPM matching...

Unless your shift rod is set ridiculously short or long it will not affect your shifting. It only adjusts the position of the shift lever to what is comfortable for you and what your boot will fit under during normal operation.

Another idea might be to take my bike out for a spin and check out the differences in them. That way you would know for sure it's the bike. Any relatively new ride will have nuances that have to be adjusted to.

Street Eagle - 2013-04-17 10:11 AM Fellow Riders, I am having a lot of problems trying to get my 2013 VV into first gear. Example: Waiting at a stop light I will shift the bike into neutral. I then attempt to down shift it into first, still staying stationary. Getting the tranny to go into first has proven difficult. I've tried rolling with the bike, upshifting into 2nd and then attempt to go down to first. Eventually I can get it to shift. fyi....I just received the bike on the 13th. Any and all input is greatly appreciated.

Was this ever resolved?

When I went through the training course we were told to sit at lights with the bike in first gear for safety so you can get away Fast if required.
