I believe is a popular choice. If you do a search for Rotella, and filter by author VARyder you will find some good info on it.

I still use Ma Vic brand, but may change over to Mobile 1 Synthetic in the near future.

AMSoil seems to be pretty popular too.

What I will say is, I no longer use a full-syn, though I do not believe it is bad. Here is my reason; somewhere around 100,000 miles (I'd have to go search on some post to see exactly when I brought it up) my clutch "seemed" to slip on the hard roll-ons, like coming onto the interstate, and hard take offs from the lights. I ride like that ALL THE TIME. I used full-syn from around 20-30,000 miles until around this time that I noticed it, 100,000-110,000 miles. So, here was my thought, let me go back to the recommended blend, semi-syn oil and see what happens. I did, and I noticed the slip went away. So, I'm convinced, even if I put in a new clutch, I will remain with semi-syn, unless otherwise recommended by the manufacturer. Not throwing out an oil debate or any other rationale. I was convinced that full-syn was not a problem until this happened. I want to see my clutch last to at least 200,000 miles, but that is another 62,000 miles away. (two years, will it make it?)

Do a search here and every forum you go to and there are ten thousand views on oil. Do what you like what works for you might not for others or vice versa.

With all your miles it makes me wounder if the clutch has out lived its life. We don't know who or where Vic gets the clutch plates from and I'm sure they don't buy the better quality ones. Good luck on where every you wind up.

one would think, especially when it was slipping. I still get down on it hard, and it is about time to bleed out the clutch cylinder. When it started slipping the back at the 100,000 I thought that is what it was, but when I changed the oil and it tightened up, I was convinced it was my oil. On about the 5 or 6th oil change since then using Lucas semi-syn motorcycle oil and all is well. I'm not promoting the brand, only the blend. By the way, you will find many, many posts that I state that full-syn is fine, but I now recant, for at least my bike. It's your bike, run 100% pure virgin olive oil if you prefer.

Check the labels, I did it this evening. Only the Rotella-T seems to be labeled as JASO MA. I was reading labels from 6 different brands and all varieties within each brand. The rest of the Rotella they had on the shelf had no such rating.

I use the rotella t-6 in my bike, explorer, wife's car and the daughters car will be running it once it's due for oil change. Ran it in my kawasaki zx14 for 28k hard fast miles including a ton of passes at the local drag strip never one issue.

My bike is in he shop today for a clutch issue with 30K on it. They called Polaris Tech Support to assist them with a diagnosis. I use Rotella T6 full Synthetic and the mechanic told me I need to change to a semi synthetic oil to prevent a dry clutch plate. I would use Rotella T5 if they would label in JASO-MA like the triple protection and T6 are. I am going to have to search for another option other than Vic oil.

So you have a clutch issue that may have been from the oil you were using. Wrench told you to go back to Vic semi syn and you say I need to find something different then Vic oil. wow. The few more bucks you would have spent for Vic oil is a hell of lot cheaper then what you are paying now. Just saying. I'm willing to pay a few extra $ two reasons 1) vic oil was designed with the vic motor in mind 2) I have the extended warranty, if there are any issues they cannot blame it on the oil I'm using.

Whatever oil you use change that stuff every 2500 miles. if not sooner. My last oil change, I had 1800 miles on the Vic brand oil. I had been driving in some high heat situations.. that oil was shot! The Freedom engine runs really hot. if I cant get 20-40, I used 10 40..per recommendation of a Victory mechanic.

I agree, I use to push to 4-5,000 miles, not anymore, 2,500-3,000 here on out. I want this motor to last...

I use Monarch semi-syn 20-50 and a KN oil filter. Yes, we are dealers but I use it in my 2010 Vision. Their lab test of their 20-50 vs Vic 20-40 convinced me!

I have been changing out my Ma Vic semi-synthetic every 5 thousand miles, and never have noticed a change in performance; between the old and new oil. I'm serious.

Im looking for a 100% Synth myself. Nearest dealer is 60 miles. Castrol has a 20/40 Synth blend. I put in Motul now and my '12 Vision drank some oil. only 6k miles on on the bike and 1500 on last oil change. Personally Synth oil the tranny is quiet, etc etc. PLUS by other experience Synth oil car, bike etc the engine runs better and last better... ALL around better.. NOW if MaVic made a 100% 20/40 we would all use that!

My Royal Purple rep would not sell me their motorcycle full synthetic; after looking at a Vic clutch fiber disk. Said it had to much metal in it for their product. Jibed perfectly with my many years of experience, and customers with slipping clutches

Royal Purple really not good in bikes. The bearings do not rotate because no friction. Thus become oblong. Have a friend that runs a custom shop. Done several rebuilds because of that oil.

I like the fact Mobil 1 you can pickup anywhere. I have used Mobil 1 synthetic for many years on my vehicles and have been very happy. My local Waltmart carries the Vtwin Mobil 1 20/50 for about 10 bucks/quart. I have tried it and I'm happy with it minus the rare slip between first and second gear. You can also pickup a WIX replacement filter at your local O'Riellys for the Vision. Can't beat that all the way around. I like Amsoil and have used it in the past on my last bike, but it's a chore due to the drive involved to pick it up at my nearest bike repair shop.

That would apply to any full synth

been using semi syn in vision, now 2nd gear is broke (being fixed under warranty) tech told me that full syn would void warranty...what you think? all my other bike use full syn from factory. Ran 10w40 full syn in 2003 vtx 1300s for 147,000 miles no problem. ALL my Harleys use it.

TRELL, each engine manufacturer specifies oil that matches the characteristics that your engine needs. Just because a particular oil works well in one engine does not mean it is suitable for another. HD does not build Vic engines nor does Honda. Oils suitable for those engines may be a very bad match for a Victory engine. There is no such thing as one size fits all when it comes to oils. I could say that my Honda Civic uses 5W-30 oil but no way would I arbitrarily decide it was OK for that VTX, I would check the owner's manual to find out what to use and might find you chose correctly using a 10W-40.
