Got a slow start on the mileage trying to sinc up with my buddy who also bought one.  We wanted to do the break-in oil change together so I was in a holding pattern for about two weeks waiting for our schedules to jive.  I don't ride it in the rain and I don't ride to work during high risk/high traffic times (lots of construction) so I'm only at 1,000 right now.

I haven't had a chance to seal the clearcoat with Liquid Glass yet and I want to condition the leather with some warm weather before I go out and get it wet.  (Open up the pores and let the conditioner really soak in.)  Once I retire in May, I'll make up for lost time.  I'm looking forward to semi-annual trips to Charlotte just to check in with Mark and the gang.

The biggest difference between the Vision and the Vintage is that I couldn't wait to thrash the Vision and I really baby the Vintage in comparison.  The Vision was a Lloyd-tuned missle while the Vintage is rolling art.  I could thrash the Vintage around but it just doesn't feel right.  The Vision's happy zone was at 75-80mph while the Indian's sweet spot is 65-70.  I've gone over 100mph on the Indian and it is rock solid with amazingly little buffetting for that type of windshield.  One common denominator between the two:  I will never let a Harley pass me and I still hunt for trucks with Harley stickers on the rear window just to give them a show.

Feel-wise, the throttle-by-wire is a lot more sensitive (less spring tension or something).  I'm not nearly as smooth as I was on the Vision.  It will take a nice road trip to get the muscle-memory dialed in.  So far I've just done 30 minute commutes to work and back or short trips around town and I just feel like I'm over-controlling the throttle.  I'm only four months out of hip-replacement surgery so I'm still easing into longer distances.  I'm ready for a break after an hour right now.

The seat is softer than the Vision seat which is good because the rear shock is a lot stiffer.  The Vintage has a Fox Racing shock that is pre-load adjustable with a spanner wrench and I have not adjusted it.  It is tight.  I like it that way but the air shock on the Vision is a nice feature that is found on the Chieftain.  I would have it more dialed in if it was that easy.

I'll be interested to hear the difference between stock pipes and the Stage 1.  I pre-ordered and paid for about $3500 in accessories when I got the bike but brought it home bone stock since a lot of it is back ordered.  I'll make a trip back to Charlotte to get it all installed this spring.  Exhaust, backrests, beach bars, handlebar bag, floorboard inserts, rear crash bar, rear bumper, rear fender luggage rack, grab rail for the solo seat, just to name a few.  I really like the way I can undo a few bolts and turn it into a solo seat very easily.

I'll have a better review after I have it set up like I want it.  Until then, I'm still pinching myself and taking it easy.

The girder/springer front end is very cool but the only thing I am absolutely drooling over is the cantilevered seat.? (There's a set-up if I?ever saw one...)? I'll be riding mostly with the solo seat/grabrail and rear fender luggage rack so that seat set-up would be awesome.? Beach bars are gonna be cool also.?

I'll head back to Charlotte in the spring for all of the upgrades.

You're drooling over the seat? I'm drooling over who's sitting on the seat!! Hahaha. How much would it be for that upgrade?

Hey Don, I will have that Vodka/Martini with you. Let the boys have their fun even though there is a separate site/section for Indian on the VOG site.

You made a valid point. We should all get VICTORY/VISION stickers on the back of our pickups to show a united front? Wranglers or Levis? Hahahaha. Just having a little fun at your expense and no harm intended. I too try not to have a HD pass me, but my Vision is stock so I got my work cut out for me with some HD folks, not to mention I got everything packed in the hard bags and rear trunk, but the kitchen sink when I go out.

For some reason, and I'm just making generalizations here based on my own observations, but most of the HD folks are comfortable rolling 90 plus on a straight stretch of highway, but seem to struggle in the twisties when pushed. I just throw the hook in the water and start reeling em in one by one when the roads start to get fun. That's what sold me on the Vision was the handling. You just plant the front end where you want it to go, mark your exit point and roll on through. Peace.

to be honest , Victory forums have been slow since they didn't bring anything much to market for 2014 and i'm ok with that. When you introduce a new brand/line of motorcycles, it generates a lot of excitement ,inquiry and forum activity. I'm thankful for this thread and Indian forums if for nothing else , forum activity. I just love talking it up about motorcycles and Indian introduction has given a lot of people a lot of things to talk about. Helps some get through the winter. The next best thing to anticipating the delivery of your own new bike is sharing in the excitement of someone else anticipating theirs.

I've given my input a few times here on the Indian motorcycle, past and present. But I do agree there is a forum just for the Indian motorcycle, several at that. This is a forum for Victory motorcycles and their riders, so I feel the dissention. I don't have any real problem with this thread seeing that the New Indian is born out of the Victory platform. I see that the Chief/Chieftain has more Victory DNA than it's bloodline predicessor. I guess you can call it a half-bred since day it was born in 2014, conceived in 2011.

I see some of the dissention on some Indian forums too. On one there is a section for "other motorcycles" and a sub forum for Victory only. Several times I've posted there about the ease of getting HP out of the Victory engines as opposed to big inch 2 valve pushrods engines..... (Harleys & Indians) Some of the members hate it and have made comments to say as such. It really got their goats when I posted the dyno videos and dyno sheets from the supercharged Victorys at the Vic Shop.... Don't hate on your cousin just because he's a pro body builder...........

I am guilty of stirring the pot sometimes, but I also point out the realative strengths of different engines too..........Can't help it I've been a motorhead for years..........

All the HoopLah is dying down about the Indian rebirth, now they are motorcycles on the road. The company is selling more, people are finding out what they are all about. On the Indian website their are complaints and praises, people arguing over the merits of this or that, People wanting accesories and tourpacks. People commenting on the virtues of a long stroke torque engine over one with more top end. Sounds like this web site. Hahaha. It has been interesting to watch...................Merry Christmas to all Victory riders and our Indian cousins too..........
