Hopefully Polaris learned all the good and bad things about building motorcycles in the first five years of Victory. We'll see soon........

I think Polaris will do great with the Indian product line... Why do people say they are over priced? They are expensive but nothing compared to the last couple times Indian was "introduced". They have done a great job keeping the new motor looking like the 40's style Chief motor. Bravo and keep it up, I for one am really looking forward to Indian being back and I would consider one, but would never give up my Vision... love that thing.

First year Vision. Yeah, I had a popping issue, so I was at the dealer quit a few times. Calmed down the popping when I found the exhaust headers were not mating well. Sanded it down and evened it up and put in new gaskets. But I'm very pleased with a first year bike, and I would trust the Thunderstroke just as much. I'm plotting on getting one of these first year bikes, new.

I'm excited that Polaris is building the new Indian, and what I've seen so far looks great. A whole new motor which is a great homage to the old side valves, and no one can say that they just put a victory motor in it. Then I think they priced it right $18,999 for a new chief when sticker for our bikes is that much and more. I think they have a real winner, and expect we'll be seeing a lot of them in the coming years.

If I don't have a 2014 Chief in my garage within the next four months I'll be pretty cranky.

The Thunder Stroke 111 is an amazing testament to the commitment Polaris has to bringing back the Indian.  The designers have the unenviable task of holding on to the design cues that immediately identify it as an Indian but still make it modern.  Their goal is to do what the car industry did with the Mustang/Camaro/Mopars with a retro-mod look.

Dropping the price point $7,000 right off the bat was huge.  Adding a bunch of dealers this summer will be huge.

Everyone that has followed the Indian story knows how we got here and how insignificant the brand is numbers-wise.  Indian isn't even listed in bike magazines that have performance/used price guide issues.

Polaris almost always has a contender for Cruiser of the Year with a Victory bike but they never seem to take the undisputed #1 slot.  The Cross Country has been their strongest candidate so far.

Because Polaris has shown the world that they are 100% commited to "doing it right" and making it available to as many riders as possible, I predict the 2014 Indian Chief will be an almost unanimous choice for Cruiser of the Year and in some cases, Bike of the Year.

I'm thinking they'll sell 4,000+ the first year. If it's as good as I hope and there are several models to choose from including a full blown touring rig in the near future they may sell 6000 to 7000 a year. Only time will tell, but I believe Ma Polaris has another winner here..........

I'll bet they don't even produce that many but I'll bet they sell every one they produce. I couldn't care less about Indian other than the fact that, they stronger they are, the stronger Polaris is and the stronger Polaris is, the stronger Victory is. The Indian just isn't my kind of bike. If it was, I'd have a XR in my garage instead of a Vision.

I pre-ordered one last month.  Don't even know what colors are available yet.  $19k for a base model Chief plus about $6500 in distressed leather and chrome will make it about $25,500+TTL.  Charlotte Indian will save me one for when I retire in May of '14.

After watching what I went through with the Vision in '07, my wife didn't even flinch over the Indian.

American Pickers on Aug 5th should be pretty cool.

He's back! There should be a whole slew of new Indian posters and pouring over every little nuance of that new bike. I remember this well so vividly from 6 years ago. Songfan you'll be happy to know i haven't pre-ordered one yet. Are you starting your own Indian riders site so you can post and blog and moderate at will. That should give you something to do in retirement, that and ride! Glad for you, I hope it fits you well, or at least adjustable floorboards. Hope to see it soon. Maybe you can get a quick flight out and drive it back.

Thanks Po.  I'm getting those old butterflies again.  My buddy that flew me to Houston for the Mustang reveal has offered to fly me to CLT for the Indian.  (Friends in high places.)  We'll see about the website stuff.  I've already bought about $400 worth of Indian stuff online for the man cave I'll be building.

XRSteve - I can't say enough about Mark Moses at Charlotte Indian.  More often than not, he will answer the phone himself.  His whole staff is super nice.  Here is a an interview he did last  year.  Talk about a survivor...

Mark is top-notch, no doubt. We had over a two-hour talk where he shared his passion for riding, and for Indian. He told me that the kind of riding I like to do, the Vision was the machine for it. He never has a bad thing to say about other brands, but is quick to point out the virtues, and the vices. At the end of the day, it's about the passion that all started with the Indian, and lives on today. While we personally never hear much of the brand, until now, Indian owner, riders are the most loyal that I have seen.

I dunno....
I would wait until I saw and rode one before I thought about purchasing one. All we have seen is the motor, which looks pretty good except for the cheap plastic head covers. I'd hate to see them go chap on the rest of the bike after all the bragging they are doing.
Then again, I have never seen what others have seen in Indian, they have never appealed to me.

I'm going to be mighty disappointed if they go cheap. When I'm out riding around and get questions about my Vision, I always try and talk it up, tell everyone how happy I am with it, and how Polaris is going to do such a good job with Indian.
Please don't make me a liar.

This has nothing to do with logic.  It is 100% gut and emotion.

This Vision introduced me to Polaris six years ago and if anybody on the planet can pull off the Indian comeback, it will be these guys.  I just want to be in on it before anyone else "gets it".  Just like the Vision.

Unfortunately or maybe fortunately, the only people that "get" the Vision, is us.
Not very many people.

I still wonder how many Visions are on the road. Maybe one day Polaris will give up numbers. Probably not till they're selling 25,000 total bikes a year though. THAT would be a number to brag about. These 15 years have sometimes been a struggle for Victory. It's not easy taking on Harley Davidson. Up till now they've been the powerhouse of American motorcycles even though they've had some lean years too. Harley about went out of business twice. Once before the AMF takeover and again in 1983 after they bought thmselves back from AMF. Will be interesting as the future unfolds with three heavyweight American bike lines available.....
