He's an addendum sheet the Charlotte guys gave me.? Not as hard as it sounds.? Make sure the oil is warm when draining/checking and don't overfill.? Oil kit costs $80.

Ok..now I am definitely waiting until 2015, at the earliest.

Today I drove over to the M.O.M South in Foxboro, MA. The Indian Demo truck is there through tomorrow. I had the opportunity to ride the Cheiftan and the Vintage.

Jumping off my Vision and onto the Cheiftan was awkward at first. The Cheiftan had a smaller feel and look. If you had told me I was strattling a 1700+ cc motor I wouldn't have believed it. At 5'6" both bikes fit me very well.

Highlights
Everything about the bike just felt small...I'm sure it has nothing to do with riding a Vision
Awesome low end torque
Great scoot for zipping around town and curvy country roads (I tried to drag the boards but there were 20 folks riding in the group and couldn't bend it around corners at speed)
NO vibration at all
Great exhaust note
Tracks very well on the highway (took hands of grips while riding in a straight line and along side 18 wheeler). My Vision has a tendency to drift to the right over time with no hands

For the price of the Cheiftan compared to the Vision, for me the Vision takes it
Comfort - Vision
Seat on the Indians - material is slippery
Although the torque is wonderful, accelerating while cruising was a disappointment (aligns with the 77hp rating)
Cruise control engagement is quirky. Need to press a button to turn the cruise on and a 2nd button to set your speed
Tranny/shifts like a hot knife through butter
Mirrors are too small

For me the Vision remains to be the favorite. The Indians are nice bikes...maybe I was expected just "more" bike. I'm glad that I no longer have to 2nd guess Vision vs Indian. Its out of my blood for now

Dad used to have a 1999 Yamaha Roadstar. It had the same oil change procedure. The only thing I hated about that bike!

On a demo ride my wife noticed the Chieftain is slippery.
Not at all on the Vintage. It may be the most comfortable saddle I've been on, including the Vision.

First ride to work on the new scoot.  37 degrees, perfect day.  Here we go again being the loner in the parking lot.  (That pole has been hit more than once.)

It's 31 at my house. There are always 2 of us here at work when it turns cold. A 3rd rider surprised me today and rode his Kingpin. The 2 main stays year round here or me and my friend Keith (whom I went to school with) . He rides a KLR 650! Had it (bought it new) about 4 years and got over 70K on it I think. Highest mileage KLR I've ever seen. He can't find a KLR owner that can touch his mileage or even believes he's telling the truth, He has to show them..

jimtom - I bought 2 KLR-650's in 2004 and rode the Continental Divide from Canada (Glacier Nat'l Park) to Mexico with my son who was 16 at the time.  11 days, 2300 miles, 1800 of it off-road.  I sold my KLR to a friend and he made the same trip on it a year later.  He sold it to another guy who has also done the Divide on it.

The #1 mod that everyone raved about on that bike was the Russell Day-Long saddle I had made for it.  Probably doesn't have 70K on it but it sure has some good stories to tell!

Wow! I bet that KLR can make the divide without a rider now kinda like a grand Canyon burrow I know my buddy has recovered his seat once. He is very tall. He loves that thing. I try to get him to get a cruiser, his wife would like to ride with him but not on that. He's a tight wad , won't buy anything unless you give it to him.

Thanks DV, looking forward to it.  Did you see on the other forum where a guy ordered his bike in September and got #94!!!!!

Apparently there was a chroming issue during the initial run so they stopped production and stashed all the bikes that had been built back in a corner of the warehouse while the issue got fixed.  This is what delayed our deliveries.  After the chrome issue got fixed, they went back to the stashed bikes and retrofitted them while the assembly line got ramped back up.  The restarted assembly line bikes got delivered first since they were easiest to get to.  The stashed bikes are just now going out and there are some stupid low numbers involved.

Not that I'm a little chapped or anything.....

My dealer just got a bunch of bikes in. Numbers were all over the place, from 171 to over 1,300. Funny stuff.

So why doesn't the owners book tell you how to check belt tension?
But it does tell you that in 8 thousand miles you need to replace belt and pulleys.
For a 3 billion a year company why do they print there owners book and manual on recycled paper. Bet there stock reports are not.

Recycled paper has an appeal for some people. It is no cheaper than any other paper, it is merely a choice they make.
Chances are that stockholder reports are electronic unless you, as a shareholder, specifically asked for paper.  Most of my stocks' quarterly reports are printed via electrons unless I ask for something different. In that case it may well be recycled paper since that is considered environmentally responsible behavior. Every company does what it thinks best in terms of appearing environmentally responsible and I expect nothing less from Polaris. Any large company has tons of options but if they strike a responsive chord with shareholders that is always a good thing for the respective stock price. Please don't criticize what you do not understand, Polaris is doing the best that they can and that includes using recycled paper wherever it will be noticed, as you noticed it.

So, am I to understand the Indian belt change recommendation is 8,000 miles? I'm sure it would go at least 10 more than that.

Not sure what JV was smokin.

Manual says "Replace the drive belt and both sprockets as a set if the drive belt has over 5,000 miles (8,000km) of service at the time of damage or failure."

Inspect every 5,000 miles, recommend replace at 30,000 miles.

What does the paper have to do with anything.

Sheesh....gotta love the haters.

Hello Alll,

Over the time that I have been here this particular post has shown some teeth. Based upon a brand within Polaris. I would say we are interested in the product for sure!

SongFan I gotta tell you the sight of that Indian on the median so reminds me of the day I was the lone 4 cylinder 550 in high school on same type of median.

I would return every day from lunch on one wheel in front of my High School ( cause I could ) then jump it up on the median and go to class

Thanks.....

Hey Sonfan, I can relate to the lone bike syndrome, we were the only bike at church today and everybody kept asking if we rode. For crying out loud it was a balmy 52 degrees! By the way has anybody had a problem getting the security system to let you input a new PIN? Aside from that issue I love this bike.

ingle51 - My buddy and I just spent 45 minutes trying to reprogram my PIN.  Original PIN works ok but we couldn't put a new one in.  Hmmmmm...

I'll put this out on the other forum and if they can't break the code on it I'll call Charlotte on Tuesday.
