I was on the road to the National VMC meet and when I screwed my cap back on it broke and the bottom parts of the cap fell into the tank. I was in Ely NV! I had read somewhere that there is an off the shelf cap that fits so I headed off to the NAPA parts store in Ely. I showed the parts guy the top part of my original 2008/9 cap and about 2 minutes later he brought out NAPA #703-1220 (also the same as Stant #10623). I took it out to my Vision and bingo, it worked! It is a metal cap with a nice rubber gasket.  I've put over 1000 miles on it now and zero leakage.

Out of curiosity I went onto the NAPA site, did a search on the gas cap's part number and found it. The image of the gas cap didn't look like it would be compatible with the Vision. I entered the information for the vision to see if the cap was compatible and the NAPA results came back that it was not.

Would like some feedback on the new gas cap rubber seal. Is the seal any better than the original Vic cap. Got a dimple in my gas tank cap seat from the previous owner hanging a gas filler nozzle off the neck. (I get occasional gas vapors when stopped and tank fillup was not overflowed)

For $6, it's worth a try!

Say look at the gas tank seal area. See if its bent not smooth and flat. Mine was and I used a pair of channel lock pliers bent it back and no more problems.

What does the top look like? Will it fit in the cut out that holds the cap while you're fueling the bike? Hell of a handy feature, that is.

Will give the channel locks a try...thnx. Ordered the new cap anyway because Amazon pic shows it as CHROME plated.

One would not expect it too as the manufacturer would not have a clue that Ma Vic had the same style filler.

I've now almost 2k miles and working great!

Received the cap today.

Results

Pro

Fit: yes
Price: $5.99 on Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000B8JUH0/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_...

Cons

Unlike the OEM cap, it doesn't "lock/snap" when it is properly seated
Due to lack of an indicated, I had to hand tighten as much as I could
Due to the form factor of the "cap" it is very difficult to remove - the cap does not have a raised section like the OEM and sits much lower in the gas compartment.

Hope this helps

sitting here laughing my ass off. Not at you but the gas cap. My brain was not working but now that I see the gas cap its the same that harley used on shovel head models back in the 70's. Why I didn't think of it.

Unless someone would verify that this cap is identical to the NAPA cap that I bought, I'm not so sure.  The picture seems to show a bigger gap between the metal grabber and rubber washer.

I tried the Napa cap and didn't like it. Too difficult to tighten and especially to loosen.

I took my old cap and removed the rubber seal. I then took some plumbers Teflon string packing and inserted a piece in the v- groove. Re-inserted the rubber seal. Seems to fit against the neck better. Will report back after riding this weekend.

Just watch out.  I think it was a similar "fix" that I did to my original cap that caused it to break.  I think there was too much pressure on the two connected pieces and after use... break and drop into the tank.  BTW, I've almost 3k now on the substitute.  It can be a little tricky on/off but I'm very satisfied.
