For those that haven't lived in a region that doesn't usally get ice and or snow, the plow/sanding trucks use a combination of sand and salt plus magnesium chloride to melt the ice and snow. NASTY stuff! I was riding up until a few weeks ago. When I went to install new Avon heated grips on my Vision and removed the seat, I discovered that the aluminum frame and components were affected by the road treatment. The aluminum is discolored and it appears the salt is playing havoc. I intend to wash down my wheels this weekend before they start getting pitted. |

Durango, Colorado | The Mag-chloride will definitely attack raw aluminum and etch it permanently. It is also pretty slickery when mixed with water on the road so use extreme caution in those conditions. It is used on the roads here too (Colorado) and the State DOT posts a recommendation on they're website to suspend two wheeled travel on the Mag-chloride treated routes. paulhu |

Yep. Never, ever ride a motorcycle in this region of the country while salt and/or magnesium chloride is being applied to the roads. Other than aluminum, it can corrode electrical connectors on the bike. You will never be able to get rid of the corrosive chemicals in all of the nooks and cranny's of the Vision.
Something to invest in if you do though; use Salt Away in a low power pressure sprayer and soak your bike with it; let is sit and then rinse off. It will neutralize the salts on your bike and hopefully seep in to all of the nooks and cranny's as well. |

New Bohemia, VA | We've got a mess here and in times past I have rode on the treated roads. I've been less apt to ride this year for a varity of reasons, but mainly because the roads are over treated. My red jeep looked white when they treated the roads. This morning I had thought of riding because the weather service said it was 37 degrees and had been since midnight. However, I believe that was a false report, the roads were frozen and their was black ice in several spots. Hopefully, I can get back in the saddle come, today. What!!! they said the high would only be 42 and it's already 50 degrees. Bunch of heathens.... |

However, when I first saw the video when it was posted I kept saying over and over ago up until the crash, "turn around you idiot, turn around." When he went down I said "you should have turned around." It was good ride to work this morning. When I was getting ready to leave I felt like Nic Cage right as he starts to turn into the Ghost Rider. My wife looked at me and said, "you're riding, right?" Yep. I've only been on the bike about 6 times since January 6, and I'm sick... |

Ride on brother. My wife is like that. She knows I'm riding and never tries to talk me out of it. She knows I have to. and for that , I love her. She is my soul mate. Never makes me feel guilty or use fear tactics like "what if you wreck, get hurt, damage the bike..." Never throws the "what ifs" at me. With her , I am truly free to ride.

Mine doesn't really try to talk me out of it, but there have been a few times when she asked if I was taking the bike and followed it with "your an ass". |

As far as riding this time of year, I only got 12 days this January and so far the snow and ice has kept me off the roads in February, but that could change tomorrow. The forecast is for mid 40s and if I can get out of my cul-de-sac I will be out for a while. The main roads have been cleared repeatedly in February but I just couldn't get to them yet. |
