I know there is a hack for the Honda Gold Wings to change the display to what ever you want. I was just curious if there is one fore the Vision so that you can change the display from "Victory Motorcycles" to your own name or whatever you want. The 2009 Ness Signature Series Vision displays "Arlen Ness Signature Series" so there must be some way to change it.

Hey Crawford,
Do you have a link to something that walks you through the hack for the Gold Wing? This is a very interesting question you raised. Wiring into the serial port could be a problem (I haven't verified but the service manual is VERY informative). I/Fing with a laptop, one might set up the serial port to do the trick. The hard part would be getting Victory to give up the secret to their data protocol. We'd have to find the correct bitrate, pairity and such for the protocol but it could probably be done with the hyperterminal program and a windows machine. When I can't find the actual I/F program for a peice of equipment, I usually resort to hypterterminal. It's kinda crude but it will get the job done. But here's the $1K question: Would this void the warranty? The answer is probably yes. This might not be worth tackling but it is an interesting thought.

Sure there's a way to change it and I'm sure it is simplier than we know. I would guess the dealer software, whether they know it or not, can go directly to the display info and modify it at will. But would they let you know it, probably not because it would add to the many things they need to be doing. Any dealers out there with the software that can confirm this?

Wouldn't it easier to contact and ask the company that supplies the stereo? Who was it that make these things again??

It must be possible, along with changing and monitoring other vehicle systems, because according to the article Titled "2008 Victory Vision" on ridermagazine.com the vision has a CAN-bus. here is a quote from that article;

"The Vision also makes several technological leaps such as an aluminum frame and CAN-Bus electronics not unproven, but previously unknown to the elemental cruiser company."

I haven't even looked at the diagnostic connector but I'm sure it's not a standard OBDII style connector so the pinouts would need to be known, but once on the CAN-bus it should be possible to view - change stuff.

I don't know much about the Visions electronics but given that it has a CAN-bus I would think that is where the dealership tech's plug in and access the different systems, but maybe not.

My guess is Arlen Ness company used the digital wrench they have as a dealer to make this change. I will check with my dealer to see if we can figure out how to use the digital wrench to do this.

Reading up on CAN, it does look like the main objective was to standardize all the bells and whistles to make end devices talk to each other. This is all pretty neat stuff that I'm reading up on. I never thought about the complexity of this machine at this level before. Why was ridermag assuming the tech was unproven though? Looks like Bosch, Phillips and Intel proved it starting over 20 years ago. Hey Spock, do you know if the Digital Wrench is the same for Polaris ATV's and Victory?

I was told that the only thing CAN-bus on the bike is the fuel management system.

The lights and accessories are not CAN-bus.   If the bike gets fitted with ABS, the whole thing may go CAN-bus like a BMW.

On your question about the digital wrench being the same between the ATV's and Victory I don't know. When I was watching the tech use the program it had menu options to select the bike you were hooked up to and there might have been options for the ATV's as well.

Spock,

I was reading that even some of the Polaris Snowmobiles have CAN-bus interfaces.

Mine works great. The only issue I have with it is reception and that's Vic's fault for using a piss poor antenna design, not the radio manufacturer's. Hook up an Ipod and it sounds fine to me. Even at 100+mph. Could it benefit from an upgrade? Certainly. But, so could damn near every other factory system in the automotive industry.

It is not a "hack" to change the display on the Goldwing to customize the readout. It's as simple as putting it into the proper mode (like putting our readout into the diagnostic mode) and then the radio preset buttons are used like typewriter keys to type in whatever you want it to read. I do not see anything in my Vision owner's manual about how to do that though.

wow if i could change the display i would. Not that I would want this to occur but it seem hilarious if you steal a bike and cant get thier dispay name off the screen. Im sure they would damage the display but hey thats why you got insurance. I'd Change the display name definatly!

This antenna Sucks major ass Ive looked at it and its like 4 inches long with wiring that goes to your connector. GIVe me a break you mean to tell me they could have made that antenna the length of the front Windshield or in the windshield design. Its not visible to anyone!who thought this radio up anyway ....what a idiot

I agree with you ! When the maker of the radio designed it, im sure they had to spec in the antenna. Im sure victory didnt make the antenna for the radio. My point is someone dropped the ball.. I use a ipod, but you can only listen to the same songs so often...

The radio is where the buttons and the display are.

The antenna was driven by Victory styling and has nothing to do with the radio supplier.

Yeah, changing modes to type you display in doesn't quite qualify as a "hack". I was wondering why I couldn't come up with anything on the search engines when I looked. LOL

Have the people that had the Vision 2008/9 radios upgraded to 2010 found the radio reception better?

My 2011 is my first Victory so I can't compare with prior year models but the radio seems to work well.
