Has anyone installed the utopia rider backrest? I'm thinking about it,have checked the website.
In their instructions, they mention to cut 1 1/2inches back from the front of the passenger seat.
Is it necessary to go back that far.Is it an issue with passenger room and is the quick out option available for the vision?

I have the backrest, it is quality all the way, you will need to cut that far back because you have to get behind the foam and slide it down next to the plastic, that it what gives it the support, i was worried about it crowding my wife, but that has not been an issue, I have the quick out option, but have not taken it out, my wife likes it, she says she feels a little more secure, but not squeezed, hope this helps

It's not difficult to install, the t-bar sets against the plastic on the underside of the seat, drill 2 holes, cut the seat to slide the backrest down on the inside of the plastic, line up the 2 holes in the t-bar and the backrest ( could be the only difficult part ), put in the 2 bolts, thats pretty much it, on the quick out option, the part that covers the seat around the hole is velcroed to the backrest, I raised the backside just a little to keep the seat from being pulled down, really a sharp looking install

Thanks for the info on your experience with the utopia backrest!I'm gong to purchase it.With the
backrest on ,do you feel the support from your lower lumbar region of the back all the way up?
I read an earlier post about having the backrest modified to what is called a full size pan.I'm
not quite sure I know what that is in the backrest.Any additional info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I have the backrest installed and I have the quick removal unit I love it as it works great for me I have the standard pad and I get great support for my back. It does however limit the passenger space. If your wife or significant other is not skinny then I would suggest the quick removal set up. That has worked well for me and takes less than 1 second to dismount the back rest then you are on your way. Archie

I have been riding with the Utopia backrest for about 2 weeks now, and its great. Impressive quality, and looks like a factory piece. My girlfriend loves the more restrictive rear seat (before it was installed, she complained that there was too much room and she didn't feel secure as secure as she does on my Harley), when while she is only 5'-6", she says she is perfectly comfortable. I originally thought I might have to have the sides of the seat reduced, but that turned out not to be the case.

I am having some de-lamination from the base of my seat, but I do not think that has anything to do with the backrest.

In short, I highly recommend the Utopia backrest, but would agree with others who say to get the quick removal option. I have it, and while it seems as if I won't need it, I would rather have the option than not.
