On my 2011 motor. I was eyeballing everything tonight after I got home with it; and I noticed a general oily; dirty seepage everywhere inside of the front sprocket cover. I assume that it's the seal behind the front sprocket?

Here it is; looking forward into the front sprocket assembly"

I assume that this will be fixed under the 5 year extended warranty?

Can some of ya'll check the rear of your front sprocket covers as well; and let me know if you see this same type of seepage/oil wetness? I'm wondering if this is common (not saying normal though) for the 106 motor....

I looked at mine before I washed it out as belt starts to squeak when it gets too much road dirt on it and it seemed dry in there with no noticeable oil seepage or residue. (2008 ). Hope your warranty works and its an easy fix....

Just hate having to bring it in to the dealer. Always worried that they'll damage something else on the bike; or not perform the repairs correctly. Never have really had a good experience with past dealers and motorcycle repairs; that is why I normally do everything myself.

Been looking in the repair manual and doesn't seem too hard to remove the seal for the front sprocket (if that is the issue) just time consuming since mufflers have to come off, etc. If it's the o-ring on the gear indicator sensor (which I can't find in the manual at the moment) I imagine it's the same amount of effort to get to that?

Found that gear position sensor (see diagram below) with my Whistler inspection camera; slightly to the rear and below the front sprocket. pretty oily all around it. I can do this myself; if the dealer does not pick up the tab. We'll see. I'll run it by them Monday and talk to them about it.

there is a o-ring p/n 5413767 there is a seal p/n 3610118
it might just be the o-ring but your doing the job you should replace both

Well. the stealer has taken a look at it; and it is the inner seal for the front drive sprocket that went bad.

And my warranty does not cover that seal. Only internal parts ie: piston, cams, etc... So i get to eat this one, am being gouged a little over $400.00 to fix it. I should've just went ahead and repaired it myself; but since they got it (already taken apart) I authorized them to perform the work. Was hoping against hope that the "warranty" would've covered it.

If there's a "next time" for something similar, I'll definitely do it myself, now that I know what I'm up against; with this warranty.

The various Victory Vision extended power train warranties seem to be pretty worthless to me. I'd expect that seal would've lasted longer than the initial 18K on it; and would've hoped that Victory would've taken care of it.

Grrrrr...

I'd have them check the shaft, that might be warrantied. I don't get this seal going at 18,000 miles. Have you been muddin' with it?

Nope, haven't been muddying it. I am very surprised that the seal went out this early as well. The "stealer" told me that the shaft bearing was fine; I'd assume that they would've checked the shaft as well. I'm going to call them back and ask a couple of questions though... you got me thinking.

It just could be a defective seal from the get-go; and it finally reared it's ugliness....

seals are a funny sort and sometime replaced hoping to solve the problem when that is not the actual culprit. I always see seals as a "hope so" thing, even when new. So if something happened up there and nicked it, or if something "filed" down the shaft a little, you'll get leakage, it's always good to check. So replacing the seal should have fixed it fine given all else was okay.

If a seal is failing you need to be checking things like shaft runout and surface roughness. Seals don't just fail for no reason and replacing them without fixing the real problem is a short term approach. If you are selling the bike tomorrow maybe it makes some sense but not if you intend to keep the bike.
