I spent some time at Polaris Victory of Cumming this week. I think we may have a fix for these iPod "pause" issues. Between Christy, me, and my oldest daughter, Madison I was able to test my Vision with several models of the iPod. The versions Jeff Whaley and I tested were the iPhone, iPod Nano, iPod Video 80gb, 3rd Generation iPod Nano (Video), and an iPod Mini.

Here is what Jeff was able to figure out that worked;

Once the iPod is selected through the source menu, do not change the source.

On the newest iPod Nano , avoid the MUTE function. To mute the audio, either turn the volume all the way down or turn the radio power off. The iPod will continue to play. *****This was fixed by trying the following:

If the iPod does remain paused, one way to force it to play again is to choose a playlist using the preset buttons (1 - 12) on the radio console. This will cause the iPod to begin playing the first track in the playlist.

The iPhone worked perfectly

The early Video iPod 80gb got stuck once and had to reboot it. It has a hard drive not a chip drive.

The Original iPod Nano worked perfectly

The iPod shuffle worked perfectly

The iPod mini worked as good as the old video iPod. (But it was kinda beat up anyway)

The new 3rd generation Nano got stuck on pause a few times but was "unstuck" by selecting a different playlist each time without having to turn off the bike, radio, or iPod. I did it both parked and going down the road.

A big THANKS to Jeff Whaley and Polaris Victory of Cumming (678-455-6460) for providing the FIX !

This really is not the fix, this is just a work around, correct? The info you supplied the Vision dealer should get back to the MFG so they can address the problem. Sounds like your on to something!

Hey Apollon, Welcome aboard!!!
For those not familiar, can you describe the "mute issue" itself? Thanks

As I understand it, no not the fix, but allows my ipods to operate without locking up. I’ll ask Jeff if he has spoken with Victory about it. Knowing Victory, they've got somebody working on it or getting with Apple to find a remedy. Talk about two great products coming together ; Apple Computers & Victory Motorcycles !!!!!

The way I understand it...the mute function on the Victory Vision and the new 3rd generation iPods communicate on a different wave length . I think of it as speaking on a C.B. radio on sideband and the other party does not have side band. (The Bandit is calling the Snowman but Fred (the dog) hit a button and they can't hear one another). That's for us Southern boys ! But you are both on the same channel.

You can’t always understand what they are saying clearly. But you can make most of the words out. I think the new iPod and the Vision are much the same, only when the iPod doesn't understand the command it simply stops playing. Jeff tells me they just need to get them both talking on the same level. He seems to think its a fairly simple matter just takes some time to match them up.

I'll see if I can get mark Blackwell and Steve Jobs over to the house for dinner and let em' figure it out.

So the issue was that you hit "mute" and it just locked up? I thought I read somewhere that it somehow got out of sync so you'd hit mute and the iPod would un-mute, but the audio would mute, then hit again, and the audio would un-mute and the iPod mute, and the only way to sinc it back up.. was.... well for lack of a better term, reboot. e.g. Turn off the bike and restart it.

Seems that theiPod cable available from Victory was designed with the older nano in mind. The pin configuration on the new nano and new iPod Classic have changed. I noticed this when I got my new iPod 80gb Classic, it no longer worked with my old iPod firewire cable. I hear Victory is looking into this.

Savannah, GA -Year round riding!! Yay!

I have an early iPod Video 80gig. The dern thing locked up every time I rode.... Previously, I'd used it on my ST1300 (I have the J&M audio system) and my VTX 1800 (I have a batwing fairing with a Jensen stereo with front audio jack) and had similar problems. I used to also have a Creative Zen Micro 4 gig and had similar problems. This week, I bought a Creative Zen Stone 1 gig (the basic one- less than $40!! ) after seeing the one my SIL got for Christmas. I have ridden all week with that one with not a single glitch what so ever!!! And it's tiny. Takes up almost no space in the glove box! The software gives you the option of using the Creative software or Windows Media Player. They make these available up to to 2 gig. I have almost 300 songs on my 1 gig. I highly recommend this as an option. It's about the size of a packet of Alka Seltzer.

So help out this old, technically challenged guy here. I bought an '08 tour prem. and I bought an ipod shuffle ($47.68 from my localWalmart). Am I correct in assuming that the only thing I can control from the handlebars with this one is the volume? What could I buy and be able to use my controls for more than volume? I did buy the ipod cable from Victory.
thx
Gary

I recommend only the 1st, 2nd or 3rd Generation iPod nano's. If you get a brand new 4th Generation nano the current iPod cable will not charge the iPod. You can by an adapter that will allow the Visions cable to charge the 4th Gen nano an control it if you want to.

I get my older iPods at Pawn shops. My last deal was an 8GB iPod nano 3rd Generation for $70 plus tax. That iPod came with an Apple charger, a data cable and a set of cheap headphones that I threw in the trash.

When shopping I took my own headphones to test the iPod's.

If the store would not deal with me I left. There are plenty of units at every Pawn shop I entered.

gary, the shuffle does not have any controls on it anyways. Not sure if puching the track up/down control on the Vision will make it skip to the next song or not, but shuffles don't do playlists (don't have one but I think I am correct), so you won't be able to make playlists and listen to what you want. The shuffle just randomly plays what is on the iPod, and so I imagine that this would be the same thing with the Vision. May be able to skip a song, but probably won't get any other control than that. Get the nano if you can and you can make playlists of your favorite songs, and depending on your mood you can listen to those while on the bike and have a lot more control.

My radio, after 3 weeks of riding in the rain, the sun finally came out. I went to see " who does this song" and the screen was full of !!!!!&&777777 etc........ Now, I have been to two dealers after mine went out of business. Both promised to call when parts are in (six months, no call) I have one dealer left. All of the controls work, I just have no idea what is on because of the display, even the ipod works! My ipod froze twice last week. I disconnected it for three days and it work great again. The shuffle is just that, shuffle you get what IT wants.

racershawn,

I think that the current iTouch uses the 5 volt pin for charging like the new iPod nano. Did you just get yours or have you had it a while?

cjnoho,

Have the radio flashed to the lastest code. They did mine and it cleared up some issues for me.

I checked the Software and Hardware versions now running on My Vision and found the following.

Radio:
SW 5.12A
HW 4

CB:
SW 5.12A
HW 6

I've had some iPod Touch issues that I've blamed on my baby. I finally figured out that the Touch is like a computer and you have to reboot it every once in a while. When I do so, I have less problems, the thing is I've got to remember this before I hit the road so I won't have no play problems. Also, if you have the device on "random" play, that is the way it will play when on the Vision. Try having it on "repeat" for a single song, and see how long that drives you nuts until you stop to fix it. You can advance it to the next song manually but if you forget you'll hear the same one over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over......
