The deflectors on the vision... what do they do? I've been told: 1) they deflect the wind around he engine therefore keeping the saddle area warm and 2) it forces wind directly over the engine and keeps it cool.

What the hell, I've ridden with them open and closed and can see no discernible difference. I only have the uppers.

Sorry for the dumb question but why would I buy the lowers if I don't see a value in the uppers?

I agree, the uppers that come on the bike don't seem to do much of anything.

On the other hand, the lowers do everything they claim to do. They keep the cold and rain off you when turned all the way out. They bring a huge amount of cooling air in on you when turned part way in. They are neutral and do neither when turned all the way in.

They should be standard equipment on the Vision.

The uppers do work, try riding on a cold day with the deflectors closed, then at 60mph open them up, and you will feel the difference in the air flow. Also, on a hot day, ride with them closed, then open them. If you can't feel a difference, well, what else is left to say.

I can't even think about riding with out the lowers, that is how good I believe them to be. Pricey but worth every damn penny.

I agree with the comment about the lowers, they should be standard equipment. If you don't have them on your bike you're missing out.

If they would of made the top deflectors 2 inches longer you would not need lowers

I'm an oddball. The uppers do work, and they can direct air a little to keep heat off or wind off if it's cool, a little I say. The lowers do work, but I have never used them. If I ever did I would bolt them on. I took off my uppers and I have never had the lowers and I ride perfectly fine. The quack of all of this is, we ride to put our knees in the breeze and then we try to block it. While I appreciate, and I mean really appreciate the full faring, there are days I would love to be in the open. The thing to really appreciate with the full faring for me is, is longer time in the saddle in all weather conditions. You have to be a man's man to do it without one for any distance, and I'm just an old paratrooper that still has life in him.

Maybe it's because I'm short... but I've ridden in 30 degree weather at 70 with them open and closed and I didn't notice the difference. I think back now to the summer and I do remember some difference, but we don't get too many 90+ degree days up here in the Seattle Area. PLUS this is my first air cooled bike so there will be some acclimation. Thanks folks!

I tried to ride with chaps all the time, but especially if it's below 40 degrees. Lined chaps, or chaps with long johns makes a big difference in the wintertime. My big problem is finding the right glove without going heated.

Okay to clarify, living in the desert southwest we get warm enough that I like having the lowers pulling the extra air into and around my legs. varyder mentioned getting your knees in the breeze, and my observations are that the lowers make that even more possible. While giving the ability to do the opposite as well.

+1 to every comment touting the benefits to be had using the lowers. Have to agree that the uppers don't seem to do much of anything noticeable.
