There is a rumor going around, that if you make sure the writing on the gas cap is in the center, and not on the side, it will breathe better thus the engine wont run as hot. HMMM sounds too easy to me. Any feedback??

I saw that post on the other forum too. I have never really had a heat problem anyway. I was talking to a guy with an 09 HD Ultra last night. He said in slow traffic the rear cyclinder cooks his legs. He also said that the rear cycinder can be turned off when in traffic, ect. to reduce the heat. His bike also had little heat shields sticking out at the base of the tank. I guess all the complaining about the heat from the Victory is coming from people that would be unhappy with the HD 96 CDI motor too.

I heard that if you lean more to the left, the engine will dissipate heat better and it will deflect air in such a way as to ward off Sasquatch on the highway at night. I utilized this method Wednsday night and it worked! I didn't see Sasquatch, unicorns, elves, Santa or that damn Loch Ness monster the entire ride! Too bad there is no correct angle to ward off stupidity.

When you ride a V Twin, you ride with heat. You can do all sorts of modifications, including wind deflectors, heat deflectors, mods to the fairing, and even doing things to try to make the engine run cooler. But its an air cooled engine, and it gets hot. If you have a problem dealing with that, you can always buy a Honda. Otherwise, look forward to how much warmer you will be in the winter.

Dont shoot the messenger ! I was just passing along what i heard. supposedly the breather in the cap has to line up a certain way. yeah right. All i do is kick my legs out to the front a little and they cool off right now. who knows where any of anything comes from. Most of what you read on these forums is good intel, but once in a while we need a little chuckle.

That was not directed AT you clubford00. I didn't think you were subscribing to the rumor. Stuff like this seems to pop up time to time.

The heat is caused by improperly installed muffler bearings at the factory. if you go to your dealer and tell them to inspect the muffler bearings they can give you the answer in no time.

Yeah, those muffler bearings are a real pain. The specialty tool for removing them costs about 5 grand.

If you install the muffler bearings to the half couplings it will dissipate the heat. And no need for the specialty tool.

Mine must have been installed correctly, thank goodness! I did order one of those mileage booster thingys from an ad in the back of Popular Mechanics, and it works like a charm. I get twice the fuel mileage on my Vision then I do on my Jeep. I had the turn-signal cancelling problem that was mentioned on another post, but I just changed the fluid and it works like great! I'm so glad we have this forum.

Last week I installed 57 PSI of 'Winter Air' in both front and reat tires and all I can say is WOW!  U-Turns at 70 mph are a piece of cake now.

There's always those who need the instructions on both sides of the door in order to operate the knobs whether they are coming in or going out. Then they know they are on the inside or outside, but still don't know why!

When I was in the Navy, my first day aboard ship they asked me to go and ask the Chief in the engineromm for a left handed pipe wrench and 10 ft of chow line......I didn't go! Don't go to the dealer you might feel real embarrassed. LOL

If you install the muffler bearings to the half couplings it will dissipate the heat. And no need for the specialty tool.

Don't get any muffler bearing grease on your pipes or you'll have to replace them, it eats through the chrome.

Now you tell me! Sometimes I wish I wouldn't find these things after the fact. Maybe I can get some flex pipe to replace the damaged ones.

Talking about gas caps.
Where can I find a chrome one for my Vision? Someday, I may forget to close my gas hole and I want my hole to look cool!

Oh yeah, need one with an arrow just in case I forget how to find big hole.

You have to be sure to use high temperature grease on the muffler bearings. If you use regular multi-purpose grease the bearings will cause the thermothrockle to overheat. The resulting heat expansion will cause the bi-metal canootin valve to close partially, blocking the flow of coolant, on the right side of the engine of course, causing the additional heat to be felt on the right leg. This can be avoided by always riding in a circle to the right, allowing the cross wind to blow the heat to the left leg. Unless of course there is a prevailing wind from the left. Of course, when you're riding a motorcycle, things like heat between your legs, engine noise and vibration and such are just part of the total experience. I mean, it is a motorcycle after all.
