Dry weight means without any fluids in it, so completely unrideable. You need gas and oil to crank it, you need brake fluid to operate the brakes and clutch, you need oil in your shock and forks to keep from riding a pogo stick. Rolling weight with the ability to actually crank and ride it is over 900lbs. |

I've actually weighed my 2008 Vision Tour Premium on actual scales. It has the CB/Intercom installed. The real world scales read 890 pounds.
We also weighed my buddy's 2001 GL1800 Goldwing the same day on the same scales. It is comparably equipped like my Vision, including CB. It weighs an extra 12 pounds, or 902 pounds.
For the record, we also weighed both bikes again when they were fully loaded for a two week trip. Guess what? The Vision was only 15 pounds lighter than the GW, meaning I had just as much luggage on board as the GW carried.
The GW has a 6.6 gallon fuel capacity vs the Vision's 6.0 gallons. On trips, the GW has about 20 miles more range per tank full than my Vision. The Vision gets slightly better fuel economy overall. My Vision has more power than his GW.
He always wants to stop "for a break" before I do. After switching bikes a few times, I can understand why. After about 100 miles on that GW, I want to get off of it too. The Vision is far more comfortable.

Just for curiosity's sake, was every fluid (most importantly gas, since that's the biggest capacity item) at top level? I like that you weighed both on the same scale, because relativity is very important. If the scale you use (or dyno, or drag strip timing lights, or whatever other measuring device you use) is at all inaccurate, you at least have a valid comparison between two things. |

Jasper, MO | We weighed the loaded bikes with about 100 miles on the fuel tanks as we were coming home from a trip. Both were fueled at the same place same time. The Goldwing holds 2/3 of a gallon more gas than the Vision. That would account for about 3.5 to 4 pounds of the Goldwing's heavier weight. The rest is probably the GW's reverse and center stand.
I hear a lot of complaints about the Vision's "small luggage capacity", but we were two couples, both loaded for a two week trip, and had everything we needed. We had just as much on our Vision as the Goldwing riders had on their bike. I will say that the Goldwing's sidebag design is much easier to use than the Vision's, but we got it all in there.
We are both aging former crotch rocket riders who spent many years drag racing. We even had our own dyno for several years and built race bikes for other people. The old competitive urges make a comeback now and then, even though we ride luxury touring bikes now.
So, we've also been to the dragstrip a few times with a Goldwing and a Vision. My Vision is consistently about 4/10ths and 4 MPH quicker and faster than the Goldwing on any given day. Side-by-side on the same track.
We just had to know, so we also tried the top speeds and roll-ons a couple of times. My Vision has about 10 or 11 more MPH top speed than the Goldwing. When doing a roll-on contest in 5th gear from about 55 MPH, my Vision just walks away from the Goldwing and it never catches me. Our 5th gear top speeds are nearly the same (129 to 130 MPH), but I have another gear to go to. It lets me put the Goldwing far behind.
Just in case you might be thinking his Goldwing is sick, or that he can't ride, he took second place in the all-bike ET bracket drags a couple of years ago with it. He would have gotten first place except he redlighted in the final round.

| what I was trying to get at is if you pulled the motor and tires. What's left. A lot of plastic and aluminum with a very small amount of metal.

| All I know is that my Vision's too heavy for me to pick up when it falls over. I know the trick is to not let it fall over but there you go. I hate to admit it but I'm afraid I may have to downsize sooner than I expected. |
