Before I start an unecessary discussion, all comments deleted - Peace to all Vision riders, soon to be Vision riders, thinking about being a Vision rider, or any other rider in general who is visiting this thread. Peace out.

Now don you're trying to get my meaningless, though the original words have been removed, thread shut down. It has to be Motorcycle related in all aspects. Now I have a standard home 30 gallon water heater that is excellent to get water from to wash my Vision, when I wash it in the cold weather, which is rare, if ever. The question I have is, would one of those tankless water heaters installed in the garage, if I had one, would be better to use to heat the water to wash my Vision with, and if so, what type would it need to be? Any suggestions?

varyder - my thoughts exactly!

I have upgraded my garage and would like hot water in the garage to wash the Vision. I'm worried about the hazards of a pilot light for a tank type hot water heater. I could mount the tankless version on the wall and greatly reduce any risks. Has anyone done anything like that? What types work the best? Do I have to worry about flow rates (I like to use a lot of water to be sure the bike is very clean)? I have also heard that they require backflushing to remove scale from time to time - is that difficult?

Thanks!

What type of soap do you use? Most automobile specific soaps say to use cold water.

You are better off getting a water softener system for spotless cleaning.

Size of a tankless water heater depends on how much hot water per minute you need. Most houses need 7.5- 9.4 gallons per minute to do the whole house.

A small gas unit would suffice for a garage hose bib to wash your bike or car.

All the good ones have electronic ignition. Only the crappy Bosch and similar units have a standing pilot.

Yes. Only about 1 in 10 threads interest me. If you aren't interested in the subject, move on. Don't need someone to do it for you (like a WebMaster).....
Now hot water - that's interesting. Wash bike in COLD water? - got to be kidding.

Do not wash you Vision in hot water!!!! It will shrink down to the size of a Vespa!!!! I think they use a wool based polymer.

I believe most recommend the bike be cold, but I believe the best results are washing with warm water. I have often thought of putting a hose bib to the garage (laundry room on other side of wall) so I can get access to warm water for washing bikes and cars.

I just recently checked on a tankless water heater for my home and they have to upsize your gas line to get the volume up to heat the flow through. The contractor I spoke to did not recommend that I go through the expense and to just replace the existing tank.

Joker - of course you were talking about 'water heater for your bike', right? Careful - you don't know - this thread is in peril of being frozen - ALWAYS mention 'bike' in there somewhere....

Joker, you are right, it will take a larger volume of gas to run a tankless water heater, but if you dont go to large of a heater the aveage house will be fine. Now if you are washing your Vision, Kingpin and vagas all at the same time and your wife is washing your victory garb then you will have to get a larger unit. with saying that the gas line to the house is fine, its the meter on your house and the gas line inside the house is reduced to 1/2'' to the hot water heater. Call the gas company and for around $100.00 they will increase the size of your meter and then have a heating and cooling man come out and replace your gas line inside house to your new heater with a 3/4 '' line. It is amazing how efficiant it really is and all the hot water you get. with all the money we save with the new heater we can go buy more chrome for our VISIONS

If it is a water heater for a Vision then I will have to check with VaParadox as I am sure that he will get one in the mail free of course from Polaris...but yeah that was what I was talking about...my previous ride was a Nomad with a "water feature" on the bike.

Anyway, just got some more tunes on the I-Pod as it is going to be 65 in North Georgia tomorrow so if I am thrown off of the site I will not care until Saturday...Should put 200 miles plus on the bike tomorrow and Saturday is the Motorcycle Show at the North Atlanta Trade Center. Should be a good weekend!!!

racershawn- just because I'm still up. Check out the below Hot Topics, which are related to washing your Vision (tongue in cheek), but mandated to avoid having the post closed! Do them in order and you will happen have clarity of why this is in existence.

FWIW, thanks gents, this has been good, because now I know how to get my Vision washed in winter, and which water heater to use.

RT when I read this, had I been drinking milk it would have came out my nose.

But on a serious note, that is listed in the caution section of the Pilot Manual. I hope no one will take hot water straight and wash the Vision, as it must be mixed at a 70/30 ratio, hot/cold respectively. Now, you did kind of confused me with the wool based polymer, being sheep related you have it confused with the other American bike. The Vision being modern has a polyester blend that too will shrink in hot water.

Speaking of which if the weather is good I might even wash my bike again, man, twice in 30 days, that is a record for me. But I like the shine from the moon when I ride at night on a clean Vision.

racershawn - 2009-01-22 10:32 PM OK ... I give>>> what is up????

Let me throw about 5lbs more of confusion on you RS. I started this thread "Vision Rider", making comments about the other American Motorcycle. Before the edit time was up I removed all comments knowing that it would incite, "Why are you always picking on that other motorcycle and why can't we all get along" whining. I left it for what it is now, and some how mr Don T came over and started the hot water heater topic all over again, and in fear of having another thread slammed on my fingers, I brought the topic back to motorcicles.

Whew, all in fun, but I really think all that mini-van driving polittle is doing has made him an old man. His posts lack a lot of zing and has gone the way of other posts. I guess some have cabin fever setting in and need to get a Pretendo game with motorcycles in it, or play full volume "Born to be Wild" while air getarin' to get the spunk back in them. Po's kids and wife thinks he's crazy because he's constantly twisting the right side of the steering wheel when accelerating while puttering his lips to make motorcycle sounds. He has to wipe the inside of his windshield and dash to get the spit off and they think this is down right gross.

He's not much on the board anymore because he ain't got a network connection in his garage where he can forum while he sits on his Vision after supper pretending that he's spinning the hills of the veneer state.

I hear when he is on, he spends a lot of time in the Motovational Posting section....

But hey some of you say why wait for summer when they make heated stuff for nuts that ride bikes in the winter. I just wish I could afford some of it because it is cold at 16 degrees, but I ain't got enough sense to take the cage to work.

I did use hot water and some detergent after my last outing on the HD. It must have some of those older technologies because it seems to have shrunk like a pair of Button-fly 501s, 1 inch in the width and 2 in the length.

It could be all perception but it sure feels smaller than My Vision all of a sudden.

While were still on the subject of cleaning technology what type of water softener would you recommend. I am using a hand-full of banana yellow micro fiber cloths that I bought from a big box wholesaler who's logo is red and blue ( and has a rep for treating its employees well). They're really good cause they show the dirt well and you can throw them in the wash before they get so much crud in them that youre scratching the finish.

The were recommended by my optometrist who rebelled at seeing me wipe my glasses with a paper napkin from a fast food mexican ( who's parent company is one of the major combatants in the cola wars).

Nice and sunny here in CVA with a high of 60 degrees. Summertime riding. Anyway, while out today, nothing new, except people will talk with you more when it ain't cold, a man approached me. He rides too, a ricer wannabe, but okay, he rides. His first words to me was "Is this style catching on?" I just laughed and gave him a courteous answer, "It did for me a long time ago, I don't know about anyone else." People, people....

LOL, Great job Ken!

I wonder if these guys offer an "Anniversary"Edition or perhaps a "clean coal" burning "Heritage Edition" with a Redwood holding tank?
