I feel rather dumb asking this because I've had my vision since new in 2008 but never noticed this before. Tonight after a short 1/2 hour ride I touched my primary cover and it was so hot I couldn't hold my hand on it. Has anyone else experienced this? I guess I've just never touched it before and am surprised it gets so hot. Or maybe I have a problem

Normal. You just never noticed it before.

My oil temps range from 180 to 220 degrees so in a half hour it could be hot.

Thanks guys, I figured it was normal but my trany is starting to make "bad bearing" sounds (or at least that is what I think ) and I'm getting paranoid. Noises are subtle but after 75000 miles you pick up on strange noises, things that weren't there before and you start to wonder.
