Can someone confirm for me that that the Vision air filter which has the orange frame, part number 7081395 is the stock factory air filter and not the high performance filter which comes with the Stage 1 kits? Is the performance filter marked K & N?

The stock should be just plain paper, white in color, while the K&N would have a red tinge do to the oil.

Thanks. I know that much, but it'a really hard to tell about the element color on the one I'm looking at, it's pretty dirty. Appears to be greyish with some irregular gold or yellow lines on it. Really need to know by frame color and/or markings.

Thank you very much gentlemen. I was afraid of that. I suspected such, but needed confirmation. Went to see if I could remove the filter this morning to use the owner's manual method of replacing a headlight bulb that burned out. (I, can't, my meathooks are too big...) and decided to clean the air filter as long as I had it off. Now I have to go remind someone they forgot something when doing the S1L1 upgrade. Good thing I didn't oil it.

The stock filter has a black frame with an orange soft seal around the frame and it has a white paper like filter material in folds, no visible mesh. Just like the picture posted on this thread. It is not a cleanable filter, pretty much throw away, check the manual for frequency of change.
The K&N style filter that is supplied with stage 1 kits have a black frame and also an orange colored soft seal, very similiar to the stock paper filter. The Stage 1 filter has a wire mesh and after the first time the filter oil is applied it has a reddish - purple color. This filter can be cleaned and re-oiled and used for a long time.
I'm not sure if the filter is made by K&N because when in the kit, it is not in a K&N box it is in a Victory box. I use my K&N filter cleaning and oil kit that I have for my other vechicles to service this filter. Hope this helps with the confusion of which filter is on your bikes.

Now I'm getting confused. The filter I have has an all orange frame except for the two upper tabs and the lower tab through which the two screws pass that hold it to the airbox frame, as in the phot above supplied by Hondafixer. The mesh is accordian folded whitish paper with irregular yellow or gold stripes, and this is covered by a fine wire mesh. The part number molded into the lower black tab is 7081395. I just looked up the part in the on-line parts fiche for the '08 Vision and the air filter in the exploded drawing is listed as part number 7081395, which leads me to believe that mine is the stock filter.

Here is a picture of the K&N filter I just took out of the bag. Brand new.
P/N on filter is 7081395 but P/N on box is 2876628.
As you can see from the above photo and this one, the stock is white and the K&N is more grey covered in mesh on both sides.

Thanks for the pictures. Is there a way to buy the K&N filter from K&N?

Thank you, No. 1. It appears I do in fact have the high performance filter then. I find it odd that both the stock and upgrade filters carry the same molded in part number. Perhaps the same housing is used for both, with different filter elements for stock and upgrade. The closeup photo definately is the one I have. Guess I'll take a break from the outside work and pull the filter again and oil it.

Radioteacher; I searched the K & N website yesterday and did not find the filter listed. Perhaps if you called them they might be able to come up with it. I believe it's Victory's policy, and probably other manufacturers also, that a supplier of OEM stuff must agree not to sell the same item other than to Victory though.

Ok, took ours off to check and it would seem we have the K & N filter with the mesh. Anyone know an easy way to clean it up a little?

Ken, buy the K&N filter cleaning kit. There is a bottle of spray cleaner, which you spray on the filter and let sit for 10 minutes, then wash off with low pressure water. Let it dry completely, like over night. The spray the filter oil onto the filter, it comes with the kit.

That's the key to K&N. Cleaning. Most throw it in and forget it.

The number ONE thing to remember with a K&N filter is do NOT over oil. Too many people over oil and blame K&N because the bike runs like crap when the oil covers the sensors.

All of the new performance filters have orange frames, and NONE of the 08-09 Victory perfomance filters are made by K&N

Most people tend to over clean gauze type air filters. If you read the instructions on a K&N they state that they should only be cleaned about every 50k miles if used on the street under normal conditions. The dirt particles that get stuck on the sticky oil gauze absorbs oil and becomes part of the filtering media... trapping more dirt. They say the dirtier the filter gets, the better it filters, with little decrease in air flow. The real benefit to a gauze type air filter is that it flows more air when dirty, compared to a paper type air filter.

The secret to cleaning a gauze air filter is to use a water based filter cleaner, followed by a good LOW PRESSURE water rinse, then gently tap the filter to remove excessive water, followed by air drying in the sun. DO NOT use compressed air, as it will spread the gauze weave far apart, making the filter far less effective... you may even tear the gauze (I've seen it done). After drying, give it a light coat of K&N filter oil (I use aerosol for control), I like to spread a little of the filter oil around the rubber mounting surface, as any leaking air will leave some dirt & dust, helping to seal the edges.

you guys are right i helped a buddy last week with his roadstar. oil change andwhat not. i seen his k&n air filter was solid black. he said he just blows air into it.. i told him, i said your not doing it right. so i used my k&n oil air cleaner kit. and reoiled it using their oil and put a lite coat of oil on it.. now he says his bike runs better than ever.. i told him to go onto k&n's website and READ how to take care of that thing!

oh btw about the victory air filter being a k&n like Kev said.. NOPE.. I Emailed k&n a few months ago and they said they didnt make any air filter for the vision.. but they were thinking about it...

I was wondering why not take the stock filter frame remove the old element and silcone a K&N or Amsoil element in the frame. Has anyone done this? I want a reusable air filter for my Premium Street.

The picture I posted above is reusable. If you look closely at the box you can read it.

I just put in both numbers that you listed for the filter new out of the box, 2876628 and 7081395, into the search box on the K&N web site. Both of the part no's came up with "No products found, please try your search again". Hmmmm? Where did you get the filter from?
