cjnoho,

I am glad it worked. I should add that to the video. What did you use to get them out. I have a pin removal tool for small pins. Did you mark the wires G and H?

Here's what the NHTSA states about the rear lighting for motorcycles:

Location of Required Equipment

Turn Signals

At or near the front - 1 amber on each side of the vertical centerline at the same height, and having a minimum horizontal separation distance (centerline of lamps) of 16 inches. Minimum edge to edge separation distance between lamp and headlamp is 4 inches.

At or near the rear - 1 red or amber on each side of the vertical centerline, at the same height and having a minimum horizontal separation distance (centerline to centerline of lamps) of 9 inches.

Minimum edge to edge separation distance between lamp and tail or stop lamp is 4 inches, when a single stop and tail lamp is installed on the vertical centerline and the turn signal lamps are red.

Tail Lamps

On the rear on the vertical centerline, except if two are used they shall be symmetrically disposed about the vertical centerline.

I'm not sure if this addresses this question, but it's what I've found so far. And by the way, I did the snip on mine yesterday.

Here's a link to the PDF document:

I use a small spring that I have staightend to get into the cavity. Those release tools get bent up too easy, springs are a little stronger, finding a size small enough is the hard part. Cheap ballpoint pen springs are the right size and pretty strong. I didnt mark each wire, although they are both blue, the stripes on them are diffrent colors. Should be no problem matching the up again.

I dont think there is an overload issue. Considering that the Vision is the first motorcycle with that many standard lights at the rear. I dont know if it's to comply with a law or just an engineers desire to see if it can be done. Engineers live in their own world.

I just did the mod on mine. HUGE improvement! Thanks, radioteacher. The video made it really easy. I'm going to guess that no matter what color the wires to G & H are, it's still the correct pins for the relay. They may have just used a different color code for some reason. I'm also pretty sure overload isn't an issue.

I just watched the video and plan on doing the mod myself but I think I'll go with pulling the terminals, the last time I was involved with snipping wasn't a pleasent experience and that's all I have to say about that. If you get my drift. Not being an electrician when the subject of overload came up I became a little more concerned about my plans, because, I plan on adding the 4710 mod as well and I just ordered a HichDoc trailer hitch so I'll have trailer lights soon too. I plan on LEDs for the trailer lights but am I going to be getting close to the danger zone with all these extra lights and should I be converting all my bike lighting to LEDs to lighten the load?
By the way, I can't begin to express how much I appreciate the information you guys share on this forum. Being 5 hrs from the closest dealer and having the only Vision around for hundreds of miles I survive on all of your experiences. Thanks guys.

Just to be safe, raise the windshield all of the way up before you get started on pin removal, in case the fuse blows while you are removing the pins.

It is easier to replace the fuse when you can get to the fuse panel.

Hi, did you ever make a video for the 4710 run turn brake controller? I did like the video for the vision middle brake light modification, that was very useful. Thanks.

Binnov8iv,

I have been stuck outside doing fence work since I got back from Vacation. The dogs next door ripped the phone wires off of the side of my house. Just to slow me down more, the high temperature every day has been between 97 and 105.

Maybe Sunday I will get the time to put in the 4710.

bobbybhb,

You all are welcome. I am glad my rudimentary video skills have helped out.

radioteacher:

Thanks for doing the video.  I pull a Unigo trailer, which has brake and blinker lights of course.  Do you think snipping G and H would have any effect on the trailer lights?

First, do NOT clip the wires like I did. Remove the pins from the connector. This is much kinder and can be reversed easier.

It has no effect on the power going to the blinkers. G and H feed a relay when the blinker is on that turns off the center lights by disconnecting the ground wires to the center lights.

If your trailer is wired to the Ground, Brake, Left Turn and Right Turn already removing the G and H pins from the connector should have no effect on the trailer.

much appreciated.  How do I "remove" the pins?  Do I open up the plastic housing or use needle nose to pull them out.......

 Thanks

I had my Dealer install a Tri-Star XP in my Vision it allows the Victory Trunk Badge to be a Brake light and the two markers become Marker ,Turn,Brake lights.

Works great no loss of Cruise control

First....Raise the windshield in case you blow a fuse. I have not blown a fuse doing this but it is better to be safe then sorry.

The pins have small tabs on each side of the pin that locks them in place. If you can find a small hollow tube to fit snuggly around the pin to push the tabs in(while pulling on the wire) would be perfect. Small needle nose pliers would be a second choice.
