So, yesterday i was in my car heading to work when on a two lane secondary highway, a man
steps into MY lane...... from the oncoming lane to "shooooo" a turtle across the highway to safety. (how fast can a friggen turtle be "shooooed"). Needless to say, i had to slow down
quickly to keep from killing the man in a head on. My stop was not abrupt but the woman in the vehicle behind me wasnt paying attention and rear ended my 68,000.00 Lexus convertible....f
ALL TO SAVE A TURTLE. Now, i love gods creatures too but you dont stand in the middle of a highway with morning traffic. Once myself and the other vehicle were able to safely move our cars to the side of the road, BIG surprise the turtle savior had gotten in his car and sped away without seeing if the two vehicles that had collided because of him, were ok. That to me is cowadice and sleazy. Anyway, the woman in the car that hit me was crying worse than
Amy Winehouse finding out that the big blob of powder was flour and not her crack. She was so
apologetic and sorry for hitting me. I told her that thats why they call them accidents, and that
I was more concerned that she and I were ok. Afterall it is just a car. ( i didnt show my inner
man self going "OMG my Lexus has a scratch on it", i played the bigger person. )
Ok, so where am i going with this. I got my shit back together and headed off to work. When i pulled back onto the highway, I coincidentally got behind to matchy matchy HD's. Two guys were on their way somewhere for the day. Heading in my direction for about 8 miles, we encountered 4 turns. These two guys never once used the turn signals on their bikes, they used their hand signals for every turn. Which while great that they know them is not the same as using their blinking illuminated THATS WHAT THEY ARE FOR turn signals........ One started to pull into the wrong shopping center in front of me and when he saw that the other driver was heading on, he pulled straight out in front of me back on the road No SIGNAL not even a look over the shoulder to see if he could re-enter safely.... i thought to myself this is just my day to encounter stupid people. Some of you may disagree with me, but some of the motorcycle accidents we all read about are indeed caused by us. We take precautionary measures to protect ourselves and our bikes, yet we also assume that the automobile drivers are mind readers as well, and that while WE KNOW our intentions, they know our intentions as well.
So save a turtle only if its safe, and use a signal that EVERYONE understands and sees. Not one that looks like you are waving to someone across the street

Nice write up. I enjoyed the read. Sorry about the Lexus but at the end of the day, putting aside all of the injuries and trauma, lets not lose perspectiive....a turtle was saved.

I dont think turtles are hard too catch. Seems picking him up and moving him would have been better for all. Its just a shame the cause of it all got away.

In my area you would be happy they used their hand signals. The NE is the only place they sell new cars without turn signals. Yeah, they are giving tickets like crazy for not wearing seat belts but none for no turn signals, not stopping at red lights or stop signs. STOP has only 1 meaning. Jay walkers are everywhere and tourist love to try and pass you on the right if you stop for people in a crosswalk? Yes, just so you know the police and emergency vehicle drivers need to drive properly too.

I am glad to hear the turtle made it to his natural habitat and avoided a mishap on the concrete trail he had to cross. I am sure you would have loved to have thanked the Manly Man for helping out his fellow creatures. Speaking of, why would he save a turtle and not have the same Samaritan feelings for his fellow homosapiens. Are they not creatures also? Sometimes, you gotta wonder, Save a turtle or a human, HMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!! Turtle Safe gotta go, Oh and the loud crunch of metal and plastic, not human. The screaming and blithering female homosapien is not a turtle so very expendable, I wonder!!!

68G for a Lexus convertible and a free turtle, Guess who won? Songfan need a poster! VacrashParadox, take the turtle next time, it is apparently safer, than your airbag, crumple zone, side impact, highly engineered piece of transportation. I ask a question, who made it without a scratch!

I grew up with the hand signals due to the old farm truck had no blinkers. I also understand that a lot of bikers and cagers never pay attention to the environment in which they are playing.

I too are glad that you survived well.

I got rearended on my $24K Vision at a stop sign Sunday and there was no turtle, just a cager that assumed that I didn't stop and did a roll through the stop sign and he was looking to see if he could do the same. Much to his surprise he got a ticket for not paying attention. His buddy got upset at me when I told him that Stop means stop and check IN FRONT OF YOU before proceeding. He said they are not children and that is was an accident.

True, an accident is just an accident that is why I doubly check before proceeding. This was the second auto accident I've ever been involved in over 35 years of driving, and both times it was them plowing into me, and fortunanetly both were minor.

Like I told him that is why I check all the time and this was a reminder to me to keep checking to avoid causing an accident to include behind me. Just a simple case of pay attention to your driving all the time, isn't that the first thing they teach you in drivers ed?

Sorry, hijacked the thread, and as far as the turtle goes, if it was on Midlothian TPK and it was me, I would have felt sorry for the tarrapin but it would have to be soup before I would jepordized my life or any others. That is truly a case of a nature lover gone wild.

And on the hand signals, I've been soooooo wrong. I find myself using them all the time as I think that sometimes it'll get the attention a little quicker than using the turn signal. BUT I do do a check to the rear before moving over.

Must be turtle season. Last week I was driving a 42,000 fire truck (non-emergency) with 1000 gallons of water on Hwy 301 about 65 mph when a car travaling the opposite direction pulled a u-turn about a quarter mile in front of me, stopped right on the white line almost on the travel lane and jumped into the roadway to grab a turtle. Being an experienced truck driver prior to going into the fire service, I saw what was unfolding and was able to safely stop and activate the emergency lights. Just glad I was driving and not somebody new. I'm sure most people don't realize that 60 mph means a vehicle is coming at you at 88 feet per second.

I am still lost on why the hell you are driving a car when you own a Vision.

Victory gives so much stuff to VaPox that he has to have a car to haul it all back as the Vision will not carry all the free stuff...

You know, I work 17,600 feet from VaP'dox and I drive by his place and rarely see the Vision at the establishment. Sooooo, I'll ride through his parking lot to taunt him. I've also told him I'll stop in to see him if I see the Vision. Now I'm wondering if there is a connection......

Ok to answer some of your questions
1. why didnt i just hit the turtle Because the stupid humanoid was standing in front of it.
2. Why was i driving the lexus instead of the Vision. Because i have appts where i have to carry supplies to clients houses
3. Why dont I drive the Vision to the store more. Because i like the fact that it drives Varyder crazy, that I dont.
4. How come i get so many gifts from Victory. Umm because they like me and i dont bitch and whine and i make them laugh
and because they for some strange reason ask my opinion on model changes,
COLOR CHANGES, and other factors that cause you guys to have uncontrollable
tendancies to buy their stuff.
Tomorrow i meet with the insurance adjuster....... ugh. I hope the turtle has a low deductable

1. Because people treat animals better than humans. They get stupid humans to run interference.
2. If you were riding you Vision, you would probably be in the hospital right now with IV's sticking out of you.
3. Dont have to drive Varyder crazy, he's already there.
4. Thery're not gifts, they're bribes.

Next time, remember this one small thing.

A turtle resembles a discus for good reason.
