So, I took my Vision in for its 5000 service. Our old dealer has since closed down and the new place had a very difficult time with the state of Texas getting the necessary permits and paperwork approved until only recently. I was a little hesitant, but had heard some good reports from some of the local guys about Kent Powersports--our new Victory outlet here in San Antonio. They are an authorized Yamaha/KTM/ATV/watersports dealer (and some others I can't remember right now). But.....they are new in the Victory line. I asked if the had certified Vic. mechanics yet and was told "not yet, but our guys are very good and won't have any problems". So, now I'm a little nervous, but I'm also staring at a wall of certifications for all their techs from all the manufacturers. Anyway, I have no choice at this point---so, on we go.This dealership has a second floor and large windows that look out over the service area--you can actually watch everything they do. I sort of did. Oil change and all that went well, as expected. The tech seemed to be going over everything. He checked the torque on all the obvious and some not-so-obvious nuts and bolts. When he got to the plugs, he pulled them and looked up at the window. He signaled to me asking if it was my bike. When I nodded, he motioned for me to meet him downstairs. He showed me the plugs, asked some questions and ended up telling me I needed to warm the bike a little longer for better plug life and response. OK, I agree--I'm a little to eager to ride. He went back to work and I went back upstairs to watch. On the way, the service manager stops me to tell me that originally he set it up for a 3.5 hour service and charged me for that, but he checked and found it should only be 2.5, so he'd be adjusting my fee down accordingly--if it was OK with me---that and the additional 10% reductions for my first service call there dropped my service down over $120! Towards the end of the service, the tech was even checking and lubricating my saddlebag locks! Not sure about ya'll, but that impressed me. If they take that kind of care with saddlebag locks, they probably do a pretty good job with the bigger stuff! Anyway, it went out for a 2 mile test ride, got the thumbs up---then they washed and dried the bike! Man, that was new for me coming from a dealership! When I went back downstairs to check out and leave, the service manager, himself, was out toweling down the bike--said they miss a few spots and he wanted the bike to be as perfect as it could be before I left.

Now, I know we are quick to deliver messages about horrendous dealer treatment. I just thought that I should spend an equal amount of time telling of a great service---maybe just to let people know that it does exist----if we can find it. Kudos to Kent Powersports in San Antonio.

Hey, Radioteacher Paul--they're expecting you tomorrow! Tell 'em I said "Hi" and "Thanks!"

I have the CB/Intercom on my Vision. I have used the Intercom feature about five or six times in the past year on VOX only. VOX is nice but sometimes in high wind and noise environments it would be better to use just Push-To-Talk (PTT).

The PTT button in the front works fine but the one on the back has never worked. Plus, the volume control in the back never seemed to work right. I mentioned this to the Service Department manager at the new Victory dealer in San Antonio, Kent Powersports. He called the Tech that was going to work on my Vision and I demonstrated the problem to him.

I went up front for a few minutes to check on a part I ordered. On the way to the Service Department another Tech said "Please come on back to see your bike." When I got there Brad, the Tech on my Vision said, "I have found the problem with your rear volume and PTT switches. No wires are connected to them!" I was flabbergasted. Not only were there no wires on the switches but the holes that the workers at Ironhorse of San Antonio made in the plastic were too big to hold the switches correctly. So the workers glued the switches in place with some silicone sealant (looks like gray RTV).

With workmanship like this coupled with the pervasive attitude of customer dis-service, it is no wonder that Ironhorse of San Antonio closed its doors and went out of business.

The service manager at Kent Powersports even gave me a ride to work. Thank God that my new shops employees are honest folk that know Customer Service!

Ride Safe!

My 10000 miles service today with Kent Powersports / Victory of San Antonio was started and finished on the same day. This was a little different then my last shop. There were a few other things that have never happened to me before from this shop.

1.) The Parts Manager received my Thermometer Dipstick today in a shipment that I ordered a week ago. He walked to the shop and installed it in my Vision and put the stock part in the package for me to take home.

2.) They washed my muddy dirty filthy Vision. It most likely left a ring around the wash area. This is a first! I was going to have to wait till Thursday to wash it because of Stage II water restrictions.

3.) The bill was less then what was quoted....a lot less.

Before they pulled the bike up the Service Manager said with a worried look that the "Low Oil Pressure light is on" since they washed it. I told them that it was OK.

When I had the Vision was about a month and a half old, the original sensor leaked. When Ironhorse of SA looked at it they lost the cover for the sensor. My then dealer I of SA told me it was a slow leak and it was ok to ride. I saw that oil was making a mess of the back tire and rear brake. When I called Ironhorse of SA to check on the sensor a week later they said to stop riding the Vision and they would call me when the part came in. I replaced it myself that very night with a part from an auto parts store near my house. It took them 16 business days to get an oil sensor.

Without a cover over the sensor, water will make it read wrong for a few days. I will order one from my new dealer next week when I am spending Father's Day money.

Here is a thread of the oil leak!

One last thing.

I went to buy the Thermometer Dipstick off of the parts wall at the new dealer a week ago. I paid for it and went outside to put it in the Vision. I then noticed that the package had no staples but had staple holes and was taped shut. I took out the part and the Chrome had cuts in it from pliers and there was still oil on it. It was a used damaged part I was sold. On further inspection I noticed that the part came from "Ironhorse of SA". Their label was underneath the new dealer's label.

The parts manager from Kent Powersports ordered a new part on the spot and apologized for the issue. This time Chuck and Kim Tramontozzi's defunct "Ironhorse of San Antonio" burned the new dealer for the part not me.

It's great to hear of a good dealer expierence. I only wish Allegan, Mi. was a hell of alot closer to San Antonio, Tx. than it is. Oh well, i guess a two day ride isn't all that bad...

Hey, Radioteacher,

Good to see that Kent Powersports continues with their superior service and attention to detail. If I recall correctly, spursmvp (Mitch) also had a good report on the work that they did for his Vision, too. I think I'll be very happy there and very confident in their repairs/service. I was told that they have sold three new Visions this month---we won't be the only ones out there for much longer.

Now, I need some of that Father's Day cash to order a few things myself.
