Hello. I love my new bike. As a Harley convert I could not be happier. But I have a quality control question that bothers me and the dealer is trying to play it off as if I just have to accept it...

The door for the bag on my left foot side does not close cleanly. It appears to seal, but there is an alignment issue that has the tip of it (by the seat) sticking out a good 1 inch or more. I am afraid to catch something on it. The other side closes nice and tight and flush with the seat as it is clearly intended.

What should I do?

Also: Anyone else notice the poor quality of the chrome wheels? My front wheel has many flaws and does not shine like a chrome wheel should. There is not a lot of wheel to see on these bikes (have not even inspected the rear yet). But, it is disappointing, I would never accept that wheel if I bought it aftermarket. I wonder if they put the blemished wheels on the production bikes...and save the better ones for the 1000.00 catalog price (each).

Anybody else have either of these probs?

Thanks, again-- I do love the bike. I just would like it to be as perfect as possible. Alignment and quality chrome is not too much to ask for? is it?

See if the issue is caused by a hinge bind.

Check out the video link below.

This is my first post on here as I just bought my Victory Vision over the weekend. I have the exact same problem and the mis-alignment on my bike is also on the left side of the bike at the front by the seat. Radioteacher, unfortunately the video you linked is to adjust the bag at the back and does not help with the problem at the front of the bag.

I had the Service tech look at it and he stated the only way he could see to fix the problem would be to remove the inside hinge bracket and then try and bend it in some....but that could also lead to creating a mis-alignment further back on the bag or possibly some binding when you close it. I may look to see if this could be a possibility but I'm not getting my hopes up too much.

I will admit that the contour of the seat and the contour of the front of bags no not match up very well. Before this mod came out others were shimming hinges with washers to correct the alignment. This technique should work for the front.

Please look at the contours of the seat and bag to make sure you can get the end result that is realistic. The ideal match is not possible I fear.

I have the same problem on my Cherry 2009 Vision Tour, but the gap at the front is symetric left and right, and about 1/2 inch, certainly not 1". I noticed that the 2010 is a beautiful fit so the factory has worked out how to solve it, but they aren't (at least in Australia so far) offering to fix the 2009. Since the front is too far out you can't fix that by shimming, but perhaps you could shim out the rear and then pull the whole cover in closer by adjusting the latching mechanism. I haven't tried playing with it yet, I am still hoping the dealer will find a solution for me.

While the 2008 had rear alignment problems the 2009 seems perfect there, it is just the front corner that doesn't pull in far enough, and my whole cover doesn't pull in fully, you can see the rubber sealing strip across the top of the cover.

Bag lid alignment is a PITA that I wish the factory would have handles long ago, or taken care of in their own quality assurance checks. As a mechanic I have spent hours getting a lid just right. Only to find that Big Vic will NOT pay me more then TWELVE MINUTES to do the job. Pretty much sucks for both the customer, and myself.
On the wheel issue listed in the first post. The wheels are NOT chrome. They are polished billet, and a bit of elbow grease will get them blinging like they should

Not sure if the 09 is different than my 08, but here's what I found:

I had the same problem with the front tip of the bag door sticking out. It would catch my pants. This problem was solved unexpectedly by a modification I made to solve another issue.

My bag doors would not open. I had to pry with all my might to get them to open. When I did get them open they made lots of creaky sounds. They would also pop open by themselves while riding.

After doing the modification in the link below to make the doors work smoothly, I noticed the tip of the doors were not sticking out as far. It's still not a perfect seat-to-bag-door junction, but at least it is in the acceptable range now.

If you are having saddlebag door problems, this thread might be worth reading too:

Mfoster...welcome to the Vision owner experience. I really enjoy my bike, and think that they are great machines. But you will find some "fit and finish" issues, that can make you scratch your head, and look at your bike like the RCA dog. The left saddle bag that you already found...the squecky truck lid, and some others. Hopefully you dodge the gas cap issue, but do be careful when you fill up. The gas neck metal is pretty soft. The gas tank(s) design seems like a great idea, and hopefully you won't have the guage issue to deal with. But at a certain point you will learn, about a quarter of tank or so left, you can't rest the bike on the kickstand and leave it running. It starves for gas. OR at least mine does. Anyway, my point is that you sweat over the small things, or just enjoy the sweet ride and good looks of your new Vision. I prefer to ride.

I did the grinding mod and still not happy, better, but not good.
Took the door off and noticed the front hinge hit the plastic webbing in the front, by the rear of the 2 square holes.
I ground that out, better yet, but still not good.
I opened up the bend of both hinges a tad. The bend closest to the door.
A lot better but it made the bottom of the door a little too tight so I put 1ea washer between the hinge and the bottom bolt on both hinges.
Way better an square and I could see that there was enough play in the top that I should be able to close the latch some.
I made the U piece of the latch that is on the door "bow legged", which shorted it some.
Some oil on that cable arrangement they use for a latch release and WOW.
Really works like it might have been engineered.

Could have saved about an hours time if some jack a__ would have thought it would be a good idea put to adjustment slots in the hardware.
Just say'in.
