Ok..I'm finally gonna toss in the towell on trying to get decent radio reception and I want to go the IPOD route. When I ride I don't like much music but I want it available when I want to listen to it.

I want to go cheap and basic as far as memory size and features and such, but I don't want to deal with having to worry about having a dead Ipod battery. I know to stay from the hard drive units. I plan on grabbing one off Ebay or a local pawn store. But which one do I need? Will the 4GB Shuffle units charge off the bikes electrical?  Or the Nano units? What cable or cables will I need to get from Vic dealer? Part numbers?

I also want to be able to control the Ipod using the Vision radio controls, such as volume and tracks and such. But doesn't only the Nano allow this?

Obviously I'm fairly confused

Your best bet is to go with the Nano. It will do everything you want it to. The Shuffle will not be usuable with iPod cable, thus you won't be able to charge or control it with the radio controls.

Radioteacher was kind enough to give a very good write-up with everything you want to know. You can find it here.

Ditto, the nano's are very affordable for the 8gb, and have an UNBELIEVABLE battery life. Just talked to my victory dealer and the cable for the new nanos and iphones will be available for order sept 18th.

I just had my brand new ipod nano die on me mid-ride. This is the second time. My 09 is only a few weeks old and was checked by dealer to have the newest software...so is it my cable? This ipod is supposed to be charging RIGHT?

Any help?

Mfoster,

If your brand new iPod is not charging, this would be normal for the current cable. Follow the link that Rebel has in his post above and read the PDF file linked to the tech page.

A new iPod cable will be coming in November...they say...it should solve the charging issue but will be expensive $99.00. You could also solve the not charging issue with a charging adapter. There is one listed in the PDF document.

The current cable plus a charging adapter would save you about $20 as compared to the new cable that is not currently available.

The $99 dollar cable if for the one that allows you to put the iPod in the sadlde bag of the Cross Country. The cable for the Vision is still $50. Just saw this today in the new 2010 Accessories catalog

David,

That is great news! I wonder if my dealer might have a copy of the 2010 Accessories catalog for me? One way to find out. I will call them or go by there tomorrow.
