luke is your popping exhaust or intake related? Have you ever had you're header gaskets replaced? Just curious...

Chris, yes we checked the gaskets and tightened the head pipes to torque specs - still pops. It has been too cold to wrench on the Vis as I have to do it outside and the highs have only been in the mid 50's lately.

will post when installed

Im still waiting to hear about this product and how its working for the people that bought it.. i took my vision out of the winter slumber this week, only got to ride it about 60 miles.. I was quickly reminded about the popping between gears (not always) and the slight backfire of fart through the intake..

I've got a nice 6 page article I wrote last month about this whole issue, I'm (for the first time) waiting for my proof reader to send it back for corrections. Nothing like throwing you under the bus sir proof reader. LOL

20 miles west of Chicago.
I installed mine last week and got a 20 mile ride in today. Popping was greatly reduced, but not entirely gone. The popping that is left seemed to be almost exclusively between upshifts, particularly 2-3 and 3-4th gear, at throttle roll-off; virtually none upon deceleration. Throttle response and drivability were much improved. I set it so that after a cold start the engine idles at about 1200 RPM. After about 5-8 minutes, when the engine warms up, the idle drops to the requisite 1000RPM. After I set the IAV I reset the "popping stopper"' (green-blue) leds on the VFClll to 7. I may go to 7.5 next time out. That was the only change I made to the VFClll settings; the rest I left where Lloyd set them after the cam install/dyno tune he did last September. I had the header gaskets changed to the older, softer woven metal ones the last time it was in for service, and had the one slight exhaust leak the wrench found taken care of, so I'm reasonably sure the popping is due to the IAC and fuel map. (S1L1). At this point I feel that the popping can be minimized but not entirely gotten rid of without major changes to the configuration of the bike, particularly a new S1L1 fuel map from Victory. I'm looking foreward to Lloyd's monograph on the subject. If anybody can analyze the problem it is he. As I said, the IAV made a significant difference in the popping level and the drivability and throttle response, and I feel it was more than worth the investment.

I've had mine on for about two weeks now, with over a 1000 miles on it. I've made no adjustments from what Lloyd set when at Daytona. Prior to Daytona I fixed the exhaust leak on the cross over pipe at the left elbow joint. Also, I don't see any exhaust leakage at the heads.
So, with that, the POP is greatly reduced. There is no poping on deceleration and the only way I can make it pop is on shifts below 2500 rpm and at that the pops are very few. I may try adjusting a little but for right now I'm very satified with the results.

I was wondering if someone can asnwer this? What exactly is the job of the IAV? i read where people disable and purchase the Lloydz product to cut down on popping and backfiring. Does it do anything else? On start up does it enrichen the mixture?

ALSO does anyone know how to Disable the IAV? i wanna try this..

Arkainzeye, the IAV limits the amount of vacuum the IAC gets, thus eliminating the pops. Most believe the reason for pops, including myself, is related to the IAC causing an intake leak. That is the simplest explanation.

I should have also said that the valve is inline to the IAC main vacuum hose and is a static device.

if you were to mess with the IAV hoses which one would you touch.. im confused. is there any hose that feeds fresh Air into the exhaust to burn the Unburnt gases? thats the one(s) i would like to disable.. if possible.

I love this site because I learn so much from you guys. After experiencing the backfiring issue and then investigating potential fixes, I chose to make TWO mods to solve the problem...both mods from Lloyds.

First, I replaced the standard air intake plate with Lloyds modified intake plate. This lets the air flow smoother above the intake valves. I noticed an immediate power boost in the power curve however there is more feedback from the intake valves due to the filtered openings in the plate which sit right above the intake valves. I like the new sound. You can hear the big V-Twins sucking in massive gulps of air.

Next, I installed Lloyds intake air valve (IAV) to control the air intake bypassing the IAC. Arkainseye, I dont believe you want to disable that hose but rather control the amount of air flow inbound. It is the hose in the middle of the three. The outer ones are for air idle. The IAV once installed does the trick nicely on reducing backfiring. It takes a bit of tweaking to get the mix right but once it's set it works great. I have it idling a bit lower than before (right around 1000 rpm) but very little backfiring occurs after the install with that setting. I also notices a slight gain in MPG after the IAV install. Marking the head of the screw (I used a permanent marker) allows me to fine tune things if I need to adjust it in the future.

What I dont know is whether it is the new intake plate or the IAV which is doing the trick. All I know is that it works. Both are easy to install using the pictures from this forum. The instructions are thorough but I work better from pictures. Thanks to all for posting the pics. Thanks to Lloyd for making the tools.

I know you're asking about an '08 model but thought I'd add my 2 cents worth anyway. Put this device on my 2010 XC. Works well. But what I wanted to add is that it is very sensitive to changes. Often a mere 1/8th of a turn will make a huge difference!
