I know its early, but I was wondering how many of you fine genltemenwere planning on going to sturgis this year? I have a close friend of mine getting married out there this year so I will be heading there for the first time. We both work for polaris in spirit lake and would love to talk to someof you fellows that are avid vision pilots.... He rides an Ultra classic and I have been trying to get him to update to something with technology that is not from the 1800's.

I'll miss it by one week. I may however get to make it to the Vic rally at Spirit Lake for the first time.

You can count on it.  I made my first trip to sturgis about 15 years ago now and have not missed a year since.  The Black Hills are 'Totally Awesome'...coupled up with all the bikes, bikers, vendors & etc.  It is definitely a hi-lite of my riding year.

Go For it!

It's not early for making plans to Sturgis. This year will be the 70th and most likely will really big crowds so look for a place to stay now. I recommend a place with a roof in case a hailstorm comes in.
The other Vic sites have Sturgis threads started already. Check them out.

Where are you staying? I camped out at the Broken Spoke last year, really had a great time. There are SO many cool rides out there, Custer and Needles highway, Spearfish Canyon road, Devils tower, and I can't forget the CITY of Sturgis itself. Here's a link to a decent pocket map with some rides on it:

http://madmaps.com/roadtrips/products/view/51/

There are a ton more. Go to Sturgis.com you'll see TONS of places to stay, hotels, campgrounds, maps, happenings, etc. Don't be afraid to hook up with people out there, many have gone out a lot, and know many cool rides that you may miss otherwise.

Believe me, you'll never get to all the cool places in just one week, you'll have to come back again!

I will be there again this year. we should pick a day, time, and place to meet. Middle of the week would get both the ends of the rally goers. I would like to meet other vision riders, and see there bikes.

Are your sissy friends Harley Riders? Tell them to get a Vision, and they would look forward to a long trip!

I ride out alone each year. It's easier than having to stop for smokers or wasting an hour at each gas stop to bullshete and eat.
It's only 1800 miles and 2 days one way. It was a lot nicer on my Vision last year.

I go with a few each year. The rules are set up beforehand. If you want to screw around, you will be by your self, unless some one has trouble. That's diferent. Makes a lot better trip for everyone.

The Sturgis rally is definitely great and a must do for anyone that has much passion for riding. It is an experience that everyone should do at least once. With that said I can't say that the riding during the rally is very enjoyable though. All and all the place is just too crowded and has a lot of wanna-be biker drunks racing up and down the hills and through the canyons. One day during the rally I came upon 3 motorcycle accidents and that was enough for me. I was happy to leave town the next day. If you really want to enjoy riding the Black Hills it's a much nicer place to visit the end of August through the beginning of September. Me and the wife went back there last year and spent a week riding the area............It was one of the most enjoyable and relaxing weeks I ever had. The area has some very scenic rides that can really be enjoyed when the roads aren't filled with a bunch of half baked idiots.

I agree with Big Vic, I have been to the rally twice and there is just no way to enjoy the rides and roads with idiots on the road.
There are many inexperienced riders who fly in and rent a bike and may have only ridden less than a month.
I am only 6 hours away and I enjoy the middle of June and early September. Hell I have been known to get on the my bike and drive to Custer for a buffalo burger and that was with my Nomad. I will probably do that more often with my Vision.

I noticed that last year the roads were not that crowded. It was the most enjoyable ralley I spent there. I hope this year is the same. I'm only 7 hrs away, so I make a few trips a year.

It has already started. Wife and I stopped at Sturgis for gas on our way through SD coming home from Montana. I wasn't stopped 2 minutes and the nutters in their cage were pulling up and asking for directions to the Harley shop. I just kinda gave a wierd look to them and pointed at the PA license plate on my bike, lol... The traffic with touristy type folks could best be described as a swarm of angry bee's zig zaggin all over the roads.
This is a month before the rally so I don't want to be there when it starts getting busy, it has gotten too BIG, which draws all the idiots and you can't enjoy the rides/roads for all the congestion. JMO
But if you are going have a great time.....

Sturgis is a "normal" summer day where I live. I live in a little town on the border of CT and RI. We thought it was really b ad with all the beach traffic but they opened the 2 biggest casinos in the country 25 minutes away and it's hell. At least at Sturgis I only have crazy bikers not a bunch of lost crazy cagers in a hurry to lose their money.

Headed there for the 4th time and it's only 1360 miles direct from home to Sturgis but who rides direct anyway gotta find the 4th different route to the Black Hills this year. Usually have 2 1/2 days solid riding to get there.

Hey Flatsix,
I also live in Fargo and my wife and I are going this year on our 2009 Vision Tour Premium (My 5th her 1st) ... (New Wife!) We are leaving around the 2nd. We are staying in Spearfish untill the morning of the 8th then returning to Fargo. Are you going this year? If so then when? Also if anyone wants to meet in Spearfish during those dates, drop me a note and lets see if we can make a Victory Presence in the Black Hills.

Hello Stretch,

Yup I am going. I'm not 100% sure of leave time from here...but probably Friday the 6th and planning to stay in Rapid City. It would be fun to try and hook up as a group and put faces to some of the forum names.

BTW, my youngest daughter is one of Fargo's Finest. She ran down a Vision one evening a few weeks ago and said hello to the couple and also " Oh, you aren't my parents :-) " That wouldn't have been you by any chance?
