Edmonton, AB | One piece of information I have not yet seen in all the articles and info I have been reading about the Vision is warranty info. Does anyone know what the factory warranty is and what the cost would be for an extended warranty?

The GL1800 has 3 year/Unlimited mileage included in the purchase price. It has additional pay warantees for extra $$$.
I think some of HD's additional transferrable pay warantees go out to 7 year coverage. |

The Yamaha Venture comes standard with 5 years unlimited. My wife said no way to the looks,
same with the Ultra, but when she saw the Vision, little hearts circled her head.  |

Memphis | Longest I've heard of for Victory is 5-year total for $800/$50 deductible or $910/zero deductible. Decisions, decisions. (The HID burning out is not a warranty item. They are supposed to last 10X longer than halogen.) Has anyone ever had a warranty claim on their Victory? If so, what for?

29 Palms California | After "NOT" getting an extended warrenty on my last bike (I KNOW>>>IDIOT!) I will be getting some sort of extension.
Yeah, my H-D lost the mainshaft splines at 32,000. Rebuilt engine, I paid in full....never again. |

I had a problem with my '06 Kingpin engine just suddenly cutting off. At times it would happen 4 or 5 times in a 2 mile period. After a lot of phone calls to Victory and threats of legal action I finally got them to replace the fuel controller/computer and wiring harness and it's run great ever since. |

29 Palms California | I had the same issue with my front injector almost at the 3k mark. After months without the bike, I picked it up, and it cut out on the way home. The dealer said it was faulty wiring, and since it was a warrenty issue it would be replaced. Well 5k later on a cross country (Just spent another $600 on getting it ready) and it being July in Vegas, it broke down again...appears that instead of rewiring, someone decided to solder wires....thus my angst with anything H-D. That was only one of the unscheduled stops I had to make. Every Cross country trip, I broke down somewhere. I have 3 under my belt. I still ride mine every day, but wonder when it's going to crap out again. Can't wait for the Vision! I'm either bad luck, or got a real crappy product from H-D. |

D/FW Texas | I find it hard to believe that given all the new technology (to Victory) on the Vision, there's only a one-year warranty. I have no doubt it's a solid bike but if Victory really thinks it's ready for prime time, they should extend the standard warranty to at least 2 years - the "minimum" warranty for the touring market segment.

I'll pay $22,000 for the Midnight Cherry Premium Tour plus $800 for the 48 month extended warranty (60 months, total). $22,800 is the most I can pay for a Vision in stock trim with a 5 year/unlimited miles warranty. The 2008 H-D Screamin' Eagle Ultra Glide with the 105th Anniversary package is $35,500 - 2 year/unlimited miles warranty. (This is a stock Harley with no customer added options.) OK, I'll go with just the regular Ultra Glide with the custom paint (same as getting the Midnight Cherry) $21,855 - 2 year warranty. (But, the Screamin' Eagle edition is your only chance to get anything close to the performance of the stock Vision.) Typical Harley guys will spend an additional 20-30% of the cost of the bike on upgrades. Goldwing Airbag - $24,340 - 3 years/unlimited BMW K1200LT - $21,770 - 3 yr/36,000 miles 1 year/unlimited sounds weak but if something is going to break it will probably be in that first year anyway. A few hundred extra bucks for five years of peace of mind does not seem out of bounds. An extended warranty is basically saying that you are betting that something will break, the manufacturer bets it won't. "Do you feel lucky, punk? Well...do ya?" Dirty Harry

So if the manufacturer bets it won't, why won't the manufacturer offer a longer standard warranty? Assuming they bet correctly, it wouldn't be costing them money the 2nd year and it displays confidence in their product.
Again, I'm not saying the Vision won't be a well built bike - but if you're doing a feature comparison among the top of the line tourers, Victory is the odd-man-out on this item. (I'm actually surprised this hasn't been mentioned in any of the magazine reviews I've read thus far.)
I realize that not all buyers are as particular about warranty coverage but on a totally new (and expensive) bike like the Vision, it doesn't sit well with me when the manufacturer expects me to pay for extra coverage as the bugs get worked out.

Valdosta, GA | Standard warranty is indeed 1 year, unlimited miles. It does seem a bit short to me. However, it does make sense from a business standpoint. The bike is going to sell anyway. I seriously doubt that lose many (if any) sales based on the extra year of warranty. By offering an extended warranty, Victory off-loads the cost responsibility to GE (same folks that cover the HD extended warranty).
I did buy the extended warranty when I bought my Jackpot. In the first year, I had a torque compensator replaced and a fuel pump replaced. Coming up on the second year, I was about to have the front cylinder replaced due to the coating bubbling. Any one of those jobs would have easily surpassed the cost of the warranty. This was my reason for purchasing the extended warranty on the Vision.
There are several levels offered for the extended warranty, everything from 1yr with a $50 deductible to a 5 year, $0 deductible. I opted for the 5 year, $0 deductible at a cost of $910. Just over $16/month seems like a fair price for peace of mind. I was also offered a service contract. I don't recall the exact price, but it was somewhere near $2000 for 12 oil changes and 6 major services during the first three years. If I were going to have all of my work done at the dealership, I would have bought into this, but as my dealer is 100 miles away and I enjoy turning wrenches, I passed on this.

29 Palms California | My dealer is many miles away also. I see your point about the extended warrenty. I'm sold on the 5 yr. Small price to pay. I went down that road with H-D, thinking it was American made and they would stand behind the product. I ended up buying the thing 3 times over. |

| This posts makes me wonder. Do all of you remember how Chrysler's quality dropped like a rock after Mercedes-Benz bought them out (of course there were problems before that)? Maybe it's because of the workers disappointed about working for a foreign company but who knows? Now they offer a life time warranty? Did their product get that much better in that little time or are they just using how Americans think? Sure Honda gave a long warranty on the Gold Wings but how did that help out with the broken frames from 2001 to 2004? |

| As a matter of fact, Honda issued a frame recall which included inspection and re welding if needed. When they had a problem with overheating, they extended the engine warranty by an additional 3 years. In fact, the warranty extensions were added to the end of whatever warranty was in effect. If you had the standard 3 years you got a total of 6 years. If you had a 7 year warranty (3+4), then you ended up with a 10 year warranty. Not bad, eh! |
