Too bad he was about 15 or 20 years too late. Either Daimler or Benz invented a motorcycle powered by an internal combustion engine around 1880-85, before the car was even invented.

I saw a steam powered high wheel bike at the Gugenhiem(??) They had a history of motorcycle exibit in Vegas. I think it dated to the same 1880's period.

It still makes one wonder if he was the first in our nation.

Back then news traveled slow and maybe by word of mouth from another country.

I could have been riding a Wiggert! In scheme of things it is funny that he got the same flack as some of us get on how "that thing" is dangerous, only for something to happen to prove the point. However, living is dangerous, period, but why sit around waiting to be taking out by falling off a ladder or slipping in a bathtub. On a closer to home note for me, I know of a man who has rode all his life, from a teenager, and now in his 80's rides a scooter. He started out by taking a bicycle frame and a motor and mounted it for his first motorcycle. Single speed and would do nearly 50mph, which he said was quite a thrill he didn't embark on too often.

Yeah a F J Wiggert at that! LOL!

One of my brothers calls motorcycles a death trap, but we call him a Bonehead...haha

Check out this 1918 three page article on F J Wiggert.

Hey, this post looks familiar. Like one I saw on an LC/C90 forum. How's it going Tom?

Good Monte,

Funny how we're on both forums.

I'm just curious does Victory have a trunk figured out for your bike?

You never know where you may run into someone you know. lol.

There's no trunk for it yet. I'm hoping they'll eventually come out with one.

The video is interesting. Imagine owning a 114 year old motorcycle and riding it. Impressive.

$131,000.00 what a price to pay for a piece of history.

Looks like the Germans had the first Motorcycle but Mr. Wiggert invented the first belt drive American motorcycle. LOL!
