I don't think the Vision has push rods, does it? Self adjusting chain driven overhead cam with hydraulic lifters.

he didn't mean push rod. he meant the connecting rods. From the piston to crank?

This might sound crazy but.. when ya first start the Vision ya gotta make sure it's standing upright, not laying over on its sidestand, it seems to get oil into the pump lil bit quicker? If my bike sits for any length of time it takes a few seconds for the oil to get up to the heads, but it seems to get there faster if I stand it up before I start it.

When I used victory oil my cold/dry starts were noisy. Almost as if the oil took a tad bit longer to get up top?

rwilly is right. FastFred on this forum had this issue. The kickstand was actually defective and tilted the bike a little too much and the pump couldn't scavenge enough oil. Replaced the kickstand and the knock went away.

A person who knows the 106 Freedom motor inside and out told me the oil pump - side stand lean angle issue was casued by the reduction in the 106 oil capacity vs. the older Freedom motors that had an extra quart of oil in the oil pan. So if you have a defective side stand or start the bike on the down hill slope...you may experience valve lifter clatter. So if that happens, I think you will notice it goes away when starting the bike in a more up right position.

Jedi is right. I had the same problem and they changed my kickstand. I thought they were nut?s!!!!! but it worked. I now only start the bike upright.

2010. I bought it last Dec 09 in St Pete fl. Only 12k miles. use 20-50 AMS only.

I noticed sometime it ticked louder if started while on kickstand. Dealer/Victory seem to think it cam belt tensioners.

Thanks

when i picked up my new speedo yesterday there was a 09 vision at this dealer where it has been to 2 other dealers with NO luck in fixing the engine noise. the dealer i was at believe the other 2 never really looked into fixing it and just blew the customer off. they removed the engine and found the rear cylinder has a broken PIN up but where the cam is... so they put it back in and still have a noise. they believe now it might be (because) of the pin the self adjusting lasher might be bad.. they think it was never getting oil properly in the first place.. i feel bad for the poor guy. his bike has been down and out for months. not because of this dealer but because of the other two that wasted his time.....

Anything can go wrong, but I'd be surprised at a bad connecting rod. The side by side rods, one piece crank and plain big end bearing almost make this a bullet proof bottom end. Having said that all engines need the proper amount of oil flow under pressure to live..............

Before we would dismantle a engine. Check the 4012101 Sensor, Throttle Position In the earlier bike a defected one will make a bike sound like a rod coming out of the block.

73,000 miles...tick, tick, tick gets louder toward the end of the oil life and it is time for a change. Minz has always had some sort of tick, tick, tick, but with no problems...
