Just an FYI for all of you....
Spun a SE Fat Bob with 110, SE Race Tuner, S&S Super stock intake[a very good unit], V&H 2-1 shorty. A very well thought out package for such a bike. Numbers came out as 96/102. The owner was a bit disipointed, but the bike ran what it should have

he had a "sudden change in lunch plans". I think he wants to install cams before he runs. I just wish he would stop talking trash until he's ready to back it up. I do think its funny that he's spending money on a bike for a race that he is edging on.

Can't you hear any of HIS buddies? They are whispering "Don't do it! - he'll eat you alive!" - the HD comunity ain't DUMB - they know he'd get his ass kicked - and it will take more than cams to do the job. Relax - and just give him a nice GRIN everytime you see him.

Hey sh$t talker Friday you and me were on. I'll be there if you don't show everyone will know who has the faster bike and who's a pu$$y, enough said. Dain

I'm not taking crap from anyone. Most everyone is ribbing him for not showing up. Everytime I ride my bike to work people call and email him that my bikes in the parking lot. Almost all of these people know my bike and know that I will take him. Funny thing mostly its the Harley guys that I ride with pretty regular and are friends of mine that are giving him crap.

You also can play with the GW guys, if one wants too.

Maybe a GL1500 or less.....Ive been flat out embarrassed by every GL1800 Ive rode with. This is comparing stock Vision to stock wing.....my bike has not had any work done to it.

After a short ride on the wing I've decided just not to play anymore. I grabbed some throttle at a hard launch and the front wheel on that wing came clean off the ground....with ease. I dont find them comfortable.....but I cant deny they are the faster and more powerful bike.....in my eyes, hands down.

The stock 2009 GL1800 generates 101HP and 106ft/lbs of torque at the rear wheel (per dyno charts on reviews).

The stock 2009 Vision generates 78HP and 97ft/lbs of torgue at the rear wheel (per previous kevinx post).

Thats a pretty big gap......

Heck the stats I see for the GL1200 Goldwing show 94hp at crank/83hp at rear wheel.....although I have no torque specs. Im guessing that a GL1200 would give it a hard run....and my money is a GL1500 would best it by a small margin.

Your experience with getting embarrassed by every GL1800 you've ridden with does not jive with the experiences of many of the rest of us. Something is amiss here. Are you a large man who out weights the riders on the GL1800's?

The difference in the power outputs of the GW and the Vision is not as much as it seems on paper, if kept in perspective. Yes, the stock GW beats the stock Vision in a drag race, but not by much if the riders are equal weights. 12.96ET for the Vision vs 12.78ET for the GL1800 when both bikes were ridden by the same rider on the same track. The stock Vision hangs right with a GL1800 in a traffic passing situation where the bikes are in 4th or 5th gear. The GL1800 is geared lower in 1st gear than the Vision is, so it pulls harder in that gear. The perception is that it is more powerful. Vision is geared lower than the GW in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears. This fact negates the 9 FT/LBS torque advantage the GW has over the Vision. Torque (expressed in FT/LBS) is what turns the wheel and pushes the bike forward. Gearing is what multiplies the torque. The higher HP number of the stock GW really just indicates the higher redline it has when compared to the stock Vision. The torque curves and gearing, and the total weight of each rider/machine combination, are what determines the outcome of the race. The stock GW does have a little better (wider) torque curve than the stock Vision, but the gearing differences make up for it in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears by the time the power gets from the crank to the wheel. This is what matters in the real world when faced with needing to pass a long line of slow moving traffic on a 2-lane road.

Lloyd's cams let the Vision produce a torque curve that is actually a little better than the GL1800's. Most Visions with Lloyd's cams produce at least 105 HP and 105 TQ. Or better. Given the favorable gearing in the Vision in 3rd and 4th and 5th gears, the GW can't keep up in passing situations.

My stock Vision would run even with my buddy's stock GL1800 when rolling starts were done in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th gears. He would pull me in 1st gear. Now that I have Lloyd's VM1 cams, intake plate, VFCIII, and stock exhaust, my Vision just flat runs away from his GW in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears. He still pulls me a bit in 1st gear going into 2nd gear. That's due to the gearing differences between the two bikes, combined with the higher rev limit of the GW. He can hold 1st and 2nd gears longer than I can. There is a remedy for that. I may do it.

We are both aging former sport bike riders and drag racers. Old habits die hard.

As far as a GL1200 or GL1500 spanking a stock Vision goes-not even close. A BMW K1200LT would be close in a drag-race- might even beat the Vision a small amount. About like a GL1800. No contest in a traffic passing situation in the higher gears. The BMW would need a downshift to keep up. Same with the older Kawasaki Voyager XII's. They will turn 12.90 ET's, but are doggy in 5th gear. I had one. Good bikes in their day, but they need a downshift for a quick pass around traffic. The Voyager XII and the Yamaha Venture are the bikes that caused Honda to replace the GL1200 with the GL1500. The new GL1500 still couldn't keep up with either the Kawasaki or the Yamaha in a drag race. The GL1800 just equals the old 1986 Voyager XII in quarter mile performance. The BMW K1200LT is the bike that, in 2000, got named best touring bike, and caused Honda to come out with the GL1800 in 2001.

Victory came out with the Vision for the 2008 model year. Purely by co-incidence, Honda ceased production of the GW in 2010, and went running back to Japan and the drawing boards. Maybe the new GW will copy some more stuff from the BMW and maybe even the Vision.

Ive never taken my Vision to the track, the only experiences I have had were just real world instances.

Im a big guy but when I was spanked by the GL1800 they were two up.....I estimate any difference to be less than 20lbs, one way or the other.....If Im guessing we were pretty spot on.

When I rode the GL1800 I was riding my Vision 2 up.....we got off the Vision and I was test riding a Honda Fury. They had to move the the wing to get to the Fury.....so I test rode it as well. We test rode it 2 up....just as we came on the Vision.

Granted the wing didnt have "my stuff" in the trunk.....which could amount to maybe 15lbs or so....but otherwise it was pretty spot on even evaluation.

Again, no track....just seat of the pants.

Every time I hit it hard off the line the front wheel would leave the ground and I was easily exceeding the speed limit in no time....and within the first few gears.

My Vision isnt a moped but .....but I rode each bike back to back.....there is a BIG difference in power.

Maybe the wing just handles the extra weight of 2 up riding better, between me and the co-rider we had a bit over 500lbs on the bike....perhaps that extra .2 at the 1/4 mile, 23 hp and 9 ft lbs of torque shines more so under load.....at any rate, I was there......night and day difference was my experience. I really liked how the Goldwing seemed to have decent power across all gears....I find myself downshifting often on my Vision......its easy to find yourself lugging the motor in slow moving highway traffic....and it always seems that 5th is a little high.......6th is a little low......damn Iowa traffic just keeps me back and forth between the gears. They need to raise the speed limit another 5 mph then I would be about right.

LLOYDZ.....end of story

+1!!

aaronkelly, if you're in Iowa, you have one of the top Victory wrenches near you. He will even come to your place and install the cams and intake plate and fuel controller for a very reasonable rate. Contact Rylan Vos at THE VIC SHOP. INC at 402-659-9655. He is in Minburn, IA.

Lloydz makes the stuff, but for those of us who can't make the time to get to Lloyd's shop, we have the options of great guys like KevinX and Rylan to help us out.

http://forums.thevmc.com/bb/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=86600&posts=...

The Goldwing has three time as many cylinders as Vision, and 101 more cubic centimeters displacement, and a lower first gear. It should be faster than a Vision. Lloydz makes the equalizer.
