| Hey guys, quick question for the rotella users. Have been searching high and low for the 10w40 T5 semi. finally found a bottle at Tractor supply (thanks to a knowledgeable VR user) but the bottle I found says "energy conserving" and there is no JASO-ma on the back panel. The T6 and the straight 15w40 both have the JSAO-ma rating on the back, but not the 10w40 t5.
Is there a t5 10w40 that ins't energy conserving? (I hear the additives in these types are bad for our bikes)
my only other option is to mix the straight 15w40 with the t6 full syn (1qt t6 x 3.5 qt 15w40) but would rather not go that route if I can help it.

Pittsburgh, PA | just wondering why wouldnt use you the rotella t6 5w40? walmart $20. Im using T6 in my vision right now and i dont have alot of miles on it. i think only 600. but so far the transmission has been Great! btw if you want very serious answers to your oil questions go here. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/cms/ even the oil makers hangout on this forum. |

I saw the rotella site, still doesn't give a answer why the T6 and conv are JASO-MA and the T5 isn't. I am far from a oil fanatic, but I do listen to advice of a lot of people that no more than I do. One of those is I don't want to guy full syn in my vic. but man I was hoping this would't turn into opinion thread. I was hoping for "yeah there is a T5 that isn't energy conserving...you can get it at xxxxxx" or " yeah the T5 is a energy conserving oil and wouldn't be good in your vic"
If I had to chose from the rotella conv or the rotella T6......id use the 15w40 conv. but thats just me.

Pittsburgh, PA | As far as I saw on their website. Rotella t5 comes one way. One weight. And if u say the bottle has the energy conserv. Label on it. Then that's your answer.. but BTW, on the oil forum I sent u a link too there is a goldwing running that oil and he posted his test results. |

i posted the link your talking about. Sounds like he isn't too sure either. T5 comes in 2 weights 10w30 and 10w40, both energy conserving and both without a JASO-MA rating. worries me.
Brother changed the oil in his GoldWing this afternoon - used new Rotella "T" 10-40. After he was done, we looked at the bottles, and noticed "Energy Saving" on the label.
Now he's wondering if there might be a problem with the wet clutch. It doesn't say Energy Conserving in the starburst, and has all the diesel ratings, so I'm thinking it should be okay..

There is no 10-40 in the Rotella line.
It would either be 15W-40 or 5W-40, the later being the synthetic-which sounds like what he got.
"Energy Conserving" is the one to avoid, and those are 30 weight or lower.
It should be fine. Gold Wings have been running Rotella T, either flavor, for years with no bad results. It's good stuff.
'Energy Saving' is just advertising hype.

Diesel oil shouldn't be energy conserving.
As long as it doesn't appear in the starburst,you should be OK.

Either Rotella T 15W40 or Rotella T6 Synthetic 5W40 will be fine.

I seen the T5 10w40 on the Rotella web site. They claim that the T5 10w30 has a 1.6% fuel savings over 15w40.

The Rotella 10w40 is available here locally at Tractor Supply Co. - wal-mart only has the 10w30.
No problems here, it'll be fine in that Winger. The JASO certifiaction it shows on the site listed above does not say 'JASO-MA', but neither did the other Rotella flavors until just recently and bikers have used them for years just the same.
With the other certifications it has, there's no need to worry.

T-5 Rotella oils are blends. I'm no big fan of blends as you can mix your own and get a better 'blend' than you can buy off the shelf.
Rotella 15W-40 (Rotella T)and 5W-40 (Rotella T6) are the Rotella oils with a known history in cycles. Both do great.

I've run the T5 10w30 in the goldwing for about 12,000 miles and it works fine. I can't imagine the 10w40 being any different.

I am suspicious of any automotive oil that calls itself "energy saving" for use in a motorcycle. If it was me, I'd change it out to the real-deal 15W-40 or the 5W-40 synthetic.

LaPorte,Tx. | Maybe this may clear up your questions on choice. The service manual on the VV 2008 say to use Victory 20w-40 oil, or equivalent oil for use with wet cltches as JASO MA rating. Now that is what Victory says. |

Pittsburgh, PA | The Jaso ma is the important part the 20w is not. For instance the5w40 rotella is actually "thicker" than amsoil 10w40 . One thingreally nice about rotella 5w40 is cold dry starts! I noticed that right away. |

B'ham, Al. | I have also been unable to find the T-5 in the 15-40 wt. Also read that semi-blend is 30% syn and 70% conventional. Well, I bought a gal. of the full syn 5-40 and a gal of the conv. 15-40 and mixed them 50-50. so far so good. Both say they will mix with any other oil so the way I see it I'm running a 50-50 blend rather than a 30-70 blend. Wouldn't think it'll be a problem with the clutch. RR |

yeah but you would need MORE than just one jug since the jug is only a gallon. here is a link to the Rotella T6 5w40, if you look you see it Passes the rating for motorcycle spec. JASO,MA

on the oil forums they have been using Rotella for Years. i used it in my vulcan 2000 years ago. the reason i went back to amsoil, was i was doing 7500 oil change intervals. Not these little 2500 oci's. and it wasnt that Rotella couldnt handle the extra mileage it was just i felt better about going the amsoil route. The reason why i tried Rotella again aside from their NEW formula (T6) is im starting to have a hard time spending $60 for a vic oil change kit or $10 a qt for amsoil,mobil1 and then 2500 miles later replacing it all in order to keep the warranty. there IS a person on here that is using mobil1 20w50 mc oil and changes his every 5000 mile and sent his oil in to be tested and the test shown that at 5000 miles the oil was STILL good. Once my warranty is up (less than 2 years) i will do that. but so far i have close to $1000 in warranty repairs this summer, and im not trying to do anything that would put my wallet at risk. i read the Fine print of the extended warranty and sure do provide themselves with enough loop holes to practically get out of anything if they customer doesnt dot their I's and cross their T's with maintenance. =) too be honest i dont blame them. btw im going to be sending in a Test on the rotella T6 5w40 oil when i hit 2500 miles. Not to see if it works BUT to see how LONG i can go on it for future referrence. Btw you can only a free oil testing kit (you pay for the test not the kit) from blackstonelabs.com the test used to be $22.50 i think its now $25. but it gives you the FACTS no one can deny. Polaris has done this on atv's at my dealer. there was a atv that came in for engine failure and before polaris did anything with it, they ordered the dealer to that a Used oil sample from the engine and send it to them so they can see if the custom changed the oil and what the condition of the oil was when the engine failed. |
