I went on a 465 mile ride today with some other guys and had a near miss at a gas station. I was filling my bike and the gas nozzle wouldn't shut off! Needless to say the gas tank overflowed and the gas ran down the side of the bike onto the hot engine and pipes. Luckily for me there was no fire, the gas vaporized and smoked instantly. I was finally able to get the nozzle to shut off. Can't say I have been that scared in a long time!! Not the way I really want to get a 2011 Vision!!

Whoa! That ain't good. Glad it finally stopped. I got to ask, were you filling it, or did you put it on the autothingy? Just curious. I always stay right there filling the bike slowly to ensure a good fill up.

huh? In my experience, auto shutoff is always on, whether you are holding the handle open manually or with the jack lever.

Either way, a scary bullet dodged. Good show, then.

I was holding the handle maually. I never use the automatic shutoff when fueling my motorcycle. I think what happened is there were quite a few pumps being used at the same time and apparently there must have been a surge in line pressure when some of them stopped filing at the same time. This has happened a few times when I am filling my pickup, but never had an overflow of gas.
