Scottsdale AZ | Just read the article about your ride in "Victory Rider" magazine's fall issue. Your short post of the accomplishment doesn't give the details that are what blew me away. Check this out ---
Day 1- 1136 miles 22 hours 44 minutes
Day 2- 796 miles 15 hours 32 minutes
Day 3- 896 miles 16 hours 41 minutes
Day 4- 1044 miles 17 hours 33 minutes
Day 5- 938 miles 16 hours 40 minutes
Day 6- 1002 miles 17 hours 31 minutes
Day 7- 1007 miles 17 hours 28 minutes
Day 8- 1029 miles 17 hours 58 minutes
Day 9- 777 miles 17 hours 15 minutes

Fryeburg ME | Steve that is EPIC, great read in Victory Rider. 11,907 miles by the time you got home and it was'nt even on a vision, (was a Kingpin) well done Steve.

There is a IBA ride called the 10-10. 1000 miles a day for 10 days!!! There are riders that have done that! |

After day 2 I really had to pick up the pace to make up the miles and after day 3 everything went really well.
I had some long days - I spend way to much time talking at the stops and taking pictures but I wouldn't change a thing! |

, WI | A little more detail on the ride finish.
I made it to Hyder, Alaska at 9:15 am, central time on the 4th of July. I had started at 3:59 pm central time on June 24th.
This is the finish. I got off the bike, took this picture and went in the get my last receipt.
My first receipt in South Dakota was my start time and now I needed a receipt to stop the clock.
Because I was going to finish this ride on a Sunday, and the 4th of July in a small town I wanted to be sure something
was going to be open to get my last receipt.
I called a gift shop in Hyder and told the owner that when I rolled into Hyder it was going to be my 50th state that
I had ridden a Victory in and that I was going to be the first person to ride a Victory in all 50 states.
She told me that everything in Hyder would be open and I would have no problem getting a receipt.
Two days later she e-mailed me and asked if I would like to lead the 4th of July parade. She had asked the Mayor
and he agreed that leading the parade would be a great way to end a 50 state ride. I said "YES!!!!"

Getting ready for the parade. First I had to ride back into Canada to get gas.??There are no gas stations in Hyder.
Leading the parade still means following the fire truck. The fire truck always goes first.
I had been told that they normally let an officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police lead the parade. Not this year.
Ready to go! The parade started at 8:30 pm Pacific time. I was still running on central time. Another long day.
The fire truck was to big to turn around in town so we had to cross the border into Canada, we did a u-turn and went
back into Alaska. I still had to answer a lot of questions!!!
One of the floats. Everyone had fun!
It was an amazing day in Hyder. I think I met everyone that lived there and a lot of people from Canada.
A lot of very nice people. The people I meet are always my favorite part of the ride.

I might cheat and use a car tire front and back and use an IV for oil changes....
I had a goal to do a 49+ to be like you Steve, but you've given me a new target to shoot for.

One question I get is - what did the trip cost?
I have never added it all up but any 16 day, 11,900 mile trip is going to be expensive.
I turned in 106 receipts to the IBA for gas and motels but there were a lot of other costs.
I changed the oil before I left, again in Kansas and in Alberta, Canada. Three oil changes in less than 16 days.
I put two new tires and brakes pads on the bike before the trip and the bike needed a rear tire and rear pads when I got home.
I used an EZPass for the tolls. There were a lot of tolls. The EZPass saved a lot of time.
Then there's food on the road for 16 days. I don't eat a lot on the trips. I lost 6 pounds during the trip. I need to do more trips!
I tried to stay in cheap motels but I didn't always have time to look for one.
I also had a spreadsheet that I used so that I wouldn't forget anything.

Steve, Based on your experience...regardless of cost and assuming a person is in good physical condition...how many consecutive thousand mile days can a person do. Where is the limit, do you think a person could to 100k in 100 days? |

Steve, Based on your experience...regardless of cost and assuming a person is in good physical condition...how many consecutive thousand mile days can a person do. Where is the limit, do you think a person could to 100k in 100 days?
The 30,000 miles in 30 days is the most 1000 mile days that I know of.
The miles are the easy part.
It's adjusting to the weather changes and everything else that happens thats hard.
I had temperatures that ranged from 42 to 102 degrees plus rain all in the same day. Adjusting to that can be challenging.
The riders that did the 30/30 also had to deal with oil changes and tire replacements while still trying to average a 1000 miles a day! It would help to have a crew to work on the bike for that ride.
There are also a group of riders that have ridden a certified 100,000 miles in a year. The longest is over 125,000 miles - IN ONE YEAR! |

, WI | ? .................after I left Alaska it was a 4 day 2500 mile ride to get back home. Canada was beautiful. 
I returned home in time for dinner on Thursday, July 8th. I rode to work and to the local dealer, G&G, Friday morning. Everyone likes to see how dirty I can get the bike. It was ugly! I rode to work first and then went to the dealer. As I was walking into the dealer there was a guy walking out of the dealer and he said he wanted to talk to me. That guy turned out to be Chris Calaprise from the Road 2 A Cure tour. We talked for over an hour sharing stories from our trips. Chris was also riding to all 50 states this year. That night I also received an email from Gregor Moe. He and a group of riders from Minnesota including Mike Dapper, editor of the Victory Rider Magazine, were doing an Iron Butt ride to Milwaukee and he wanted to know if I could meet them there. YES! So I met them at the Harley plant and took their picture. 
I would meet Chris and Gregor again at the rally in Spirit Lake.? The rally was fun. I met a lot of people. In August I did a?3 day road trip to Southwest Wisconsin with my wife. We found this little town. 
A few weeks later we did a ride to a new dealer in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. I wasn't planning on getting a new bike, this was just a ride. They had a Vision 8-Ball that I kind of liked - about a month later I went back and bought it. 
?It has really been a?good year. So what makes a really good year a great year...................................to be continued. ? .

, WI | This made my day. The Wisconsin Ducati Club asked me to speak about the IBA rides. I think this is cool because they know I did all of the rides on a Victory! I hope they know what they're doing, I love talking about the rides. I can talk for hours.
