I just purchased the lowers for my VV, but am not too keen on the brackets being black aluminum. I could have them chromed, power-coated to match the bike, find a similar gray to my trim at Discount Auto. What have others here done?

I thought they needed to be chromed or painted to match the bike too, until I got them put on. The black brackets actually don't look too bad on my SSG 2008. They're not very noticeable to me. YMMV.

Not that I get anything for saying this, but IF I was to get lowers, I'd do the CO set-up, seems a lot better looking in color match. Also, IF I do get lowers, they will be bolted on, that sticky stuff might hold, but given the amount I ride and mine sits outside, I'd give it 3 to 5 years on my bike and that glue would give out. JMHO.

Color match would be the only way to buy lowers and chrome mounts or color match mounts.
I would think you want the lowers to look like there part of the bike.
DrDecay you can get paint from the Vic dealer and have some one paint every thing for you and I would guess not to expensive

I had the standard plexiglass lowers and and upper air deflectors, however, after breaking 2 lowers on the left side I opted to get a set of polished chrome aluminum uppers/lowers. that one of our members here sells (He was OUTSTANDING to deal with, I can't say enough good things about him). The company is CycleOps USA LLC... I will have to appoligize to him my memory is not what it used to be but I think his name is Steve They are not cheap but they look great and in the long run will save $$ as they do not break...

I hope that this helps......

Gerry - we ride in a similar climate, and travel into hotter areas of the interior. I have never felt the need of lowers and I wonder why you bothered?

Since December I have been riding without lowers after having them for over a year. I cannot wait to reinstall them!

As long as you are moving they channel the heat away when it is 107 degrees and 90% humidity and they block the cold and provide a little engine heat when it is 19 degrees and dry.

From where I sit on a daily basis the lowers look and work beautiful to me. They are a very effective design and do the job for which they were built.

If you do not like the looks of them just say so and call them ugly. I would not mind if you did call them ugly....but I will put them back on my Vision!

Hey Don

When the left one broke and I did not have it I really noticed the heat coming off of the engine. As I work 7 day shifts taking the bike back and forth to work at slow town speeds I really do notice the heat. Even at 80 km/h I did notice the difference. I can't even imagiine what it would have been like last summer during our trip to Vegas (+120 degs F).

So, yes I do notice the heat in the summer time. Not so much at speeds over 100 km/h, but definately at the lower speeds. Not to mention that I also really notice them on the cooler  early morning rides to work. They do keep the heat in around my legs.... Like I mentioned, after having them and then not having them for awhile I would not ride without them.

Take Care

Lowers are kind of like the power windshield.  Those who have never had one think "Eh, no big deal.  I can live without it."  Once you get them you won't go back.  The practicality and added flexibilty regardless of the temps/weather conditions is just too nice.

The lowers made all the diff for me, both in cold and warm weather. I personally like the look of the dark tinted(painted) lowers on the bikes, but the darn plastic is prone to break, so I can't see spending any more money on them. The Chrome lowers by CycleOps look beeyouteeful, but I'm a paint-n-chrome guy...

For you guys who are wondering how the hines look chromed, here is an example of how they look atfer we triple show chrome them.

They're a PITA to chrome because the castings have lots of porosity, so we have to copper them, polish, copper, polish, and so on to get them to the level of quality we're happy with, but the end results seem worth it to those that have had us do them. Memeber cost to chrome the whole set is $165 and turnaround time is about 10 days.

LOL Gerry! I will say I've been called much worse!!

I don't offer the hinges but do offer chroming and color matched powder coating for them.

Hey Will, you know I had to purchase the OEM ones first just so I can get the mounts. I think I can get a Duplicolor paint to come darn close to the brushed aluminum in color. So I may try painting the mounts first. If I screw them up and am not happy with the color, can you still chrome them after stripping off the paint?

Absolutely Mark, sure can. Go ahead and if it doesn't work out as you expect just send 'em my way and I'll flip 'em around in 10 days or so.
