I know with my droid, I could plug it in to the 3.5 mm jack and leave the GPS on, and it'd play the music AND give voice directions over the speakers while keeping it in the glovebox. I couldn't see the map, but with it pronouncing the streets, it really wasn't necessary.

I know my ipod touch works great with the ipod cable. But as far as those iPhone 4's that are out for ATT and Verizon (I'd be looking at verizon if it makes a difference), can you set a GPS address, then plug it in and also play from the playlists while still retaining the GPS in the background?

I don't have a voice GPS app on my iphone4. Mine works OK, but has some issues. One day it will play music for hours and I will receive e-mail and text notifications through the speakers, along with the ringer if somebody calls. It will than resume playing the ipod after the phone stops ringing. Other days I don't even get one song and the ipod stops. I either have to turn the radio off and back on or open the glove box and dismiss the "not compatable" pop-up. When it starts doing that it's every few minutes. Very frustrating.

I have used the MotionX GPS app on my iPone 4 and love it! Haven't yet used it with the iPod cable...just with the aux cable. However, the app is great...plays music then fades out to tell you the gps commands. It has great search features...etc. I actually bought the TomTom 2 gps for the bike. I then sold it and just use the iPhone.

The app is $.99. If you want voice command you have to pay extra for it - $25/year. I find the voice command helpful. The price is still cheaper then buying a GPS. The maps are updated live so you don't need to download and buy updated maps like a GPS and you have live search too.

Just bumping to see if anyone has the voice command app and is using it through the ipod cable and getting voice commands AND flawless use of the playlists together. It'd be something in favor of me upgrading to an iphone instead of using a separate GPS.

Jailbreak you iPhone and download XGPS from cydia. Works great! You can also run pandora in the background on any version of iPhone. Jailbreak is easy only takes a few minutes and really unlocks the full potiential of you phone. I jailbroke mine the first day and have never had any problems. XGPS is free!

Okay I finally hooked up my new iPod cord to my bike (the newer one). I can play my music and get the gps to come though the speakers. You have to play your music choice first, the go to your gps app and navigate. Finally, hook up the iPhone to your connector. If you turn off the bike you will have to repeat his process. Not too terrible of a process....it works great. You can still use the controls to skip and rewind songs.

I was in Cooperstown, NY today and had to use the gps to look something up. I was able to do this while still hooked up to the bike and still playing music. I put in the new directions and rode off....no problems.

Overall using the iPhone and the gps app (MotionX Drive) works great with the new iPod cord!!
