I'm looking into getting this windshield and just wondering for those who have one, does it work as advertised. In otherwords does it really act like it is 3-4 inches higher then the standard shield. Currently when the standard shield is all the way up I am looking right at the tip of it creating split vision. (no pun). I'm hoping this shield will allow me to keep it set lower yet act as if it is higher than the standard. 2 question does the dark tint bother you to look through if all the way up and in dark cloudy weather.

I have the ness flip shield, its not as tall as the O.E.M.. it does not feel like you get 4 more inches of protection. I would say its close to the same wind protetion as the factory sheild. the tint is dark, but I look over the top anyway.on the up side, it looks cool as heck

I have recently gone through the "new windshield search" for my 2010 Vision. Lots of companies with quality products to choose from. I had very specific windshield needs, the major need being more protection with the windshield at the full up position at freeway speeds. The flip style windshields, as I was told by their manufacturers, didn't have perfect clarity in the curved area. For me, that wouldn't do. I must clarify that I never sat behind one of the flip style windscreens. I figured that if the manufacturers were honest enough to tell me the truth, I was ok with that info. I was disappointed, because I quite like the look of these windscreens.
A friend of mine purchased a Cee Bailey windshield for his Honda VTX and I was impressed with the quality. They make windscreens for the aircraft industry so the quality should be first rate.
I'm just shy of 5'9" tall and always wear a full face helmet, and I just wasn't getting the protection I wanted on the freeway at higher cruising speeds with the stock Vision windscreen. I opted for a Cee Bailey clear windscreen that was 2" taller than my stock Vision windscreen. My new windscreen came last week. Shipped without any damage. The holes were pre drilled perfectly. I used some blue masking tape to hold the rectangular black plates in place, just in case I dropped one. Using Cee Bailey's torque specs, the new windscreen installed in just a few minutes without any cracks. I ordered the 2" extra height and was quite pleased that the windscreen was just shy of an inch wider on each side as well. I couldn't wait till the next morning for the road test.
The road test went very well. Optical clarity was perfect. The angle of the Cee Bailey windscreen is slightly different than the stock version, causing just a little glare off the silver console with a strong sun at your back. It is not a "deal breaker" for me. Around town and on the freeway, I have been very pleased with the extra protection. Using my hand as a very scientific measuring device, it seems that my new Cee Bailey windscreen pushes the air about 4" above my head at 65 mph in the full up position.
The cons of the Cee Bailey windscreen? It seemed to be the high price leader of the group, but with the excellent quality and improved protection, I have no problem with having paid the extra money. Good stuff just costs more.
I hope this helps and good luck with your decision.

for the forum searched challenged individuals, the link for the pictures at the VMC is above, I think you'll need to be a member to see them.

personally, I think that is the perfect windshield for those who run darkside, I know I won't put that hideous looking thing on my bike. Just my opinion that I'm entitled too.

I looked at the Cee Bailey windshield and they look very wide open on the sires. Then I looked at the http://7jurock.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=287
It seams to be cut more like the stock ones.
Flips are very nice they get the air over you just fine. It feels like a very light breeze on your for hear.
Just telling you what I have found

Do a search here for flip windshield. I have the Gustafson and love it and have commented on it here a couple of times. I am not aware of a Ness windshield. Please provide a link for everyone. Had a "Windvest" on my old bike, but they don't make one for the Vision. You can get the Flipshield as tall as you want. He'll cut anything as each sheild is cut to order.

That 15" Euro flip looks good in the picture on the Gustafson website............Does it give you an extra couple on inches wind protection as advertised ??

Okay, I just got to know. What is flipping on these windshields? Do the rotate around 180 degrees?
The links aren't working for me, so I can't visualize. Thanks,

Herb

I am 5'9" and cannot see how one my size or shorter would want a different windshield....In the full up position I have no buffeting issues, or vision issues, etc....For my money I fail to see any problems with the stock shield to warrant spending my hard earned cash on another windshield...but to each his own I suppose......

Now I get it, thank you. It is a contoured for air flow or something like that. Cool.

I got mine the other day and have it on .It looks cool and does deflect the wind well and its alittle wider but is hard to see thru unless you have it all the way up and you are going West into the sunset then its pretty handy. I am going on a trip two up this weekend and will let everyone know about how it effects the passanger.

XR, can't really comment on the "extra 2-3 inches" as I don't have a same sized normal shield to compare it to. My 8 ball stock blade was 11 3/4 inches. Not enough. I got a 15 inch flip. (Kinda wish I had gotten a 14 inch for more "wind" around town). The nicest thing was he will cut any size you want. If you want 15 and 7/8's he'll cut that! LOL I like a shield I can see over, so I just cut some cardboard, taped it on and went for a short ride around my neighborhood to figger my size.. The "flip" was just extra. My old bike had a flip and I liked it. It did seem to give extra "height" But gotta tell you, sometimes a flip can actually cause more turbulence than a straight shield. The only way to find out if you like it is to try it.

Anyone tell me, does the "flip" cause any distortion?
My 09 Ness Vision has a slght "flip" in it and definitely causes a distraction when topping out on a hill, which is why I'm looking for a new one.

If you are seeing the top 1-2" of your windshield when topping a hill and it bothers you, you have only two options. First is to buy an even shorter windshield and the second is of course one that is WAY taller. I can tell you from riding tour model bikes for many decades that if you have the RIGHT windshield, you'll almost 100% of the time get the hill affect.
The other option with the Vision is to ride with the shield up so you are looking thru it. My stock 08 shield cracked around 3 of the bolt holes and my dealer replaced it with the tall vic windshield per my request (warranty repair). This made my passenger much happier and I simply used the fairing wings to get extra air if I wanted it. I ran the windshield all the way up with a passenger and full down without. Of course the top of the windshield was just below line of sight so I got the top edge affect going over hills (I'm 6' tall). I'm a "clearview" shield fan, best shields I've ever run, but last I contacted them they weren't making shields for the Vision. The flipped top edge design is one of their inventions and it gives approximately 4" of extra airflow "above" what would be provided with the same sized flat ws.

Remember when deciding on a windshield how tall you are has NOTHING to do with it. You don't ride standing up. From your butt to your eye balls will give you the best numbers. If you sit up or lean back makes a difference too.

Not to hijack the thread but for those of you like myself that have come over from riding Goldwings you might remember the Tulsa Enterprises aerodynamic windshields.  Well, I have been in touch with the owner there and I have sent him my old stock (I've been running the 2" over factory accessory windshield) windshield so that he can see if it would be compatible with his Tulsa mold.  I think that with the way the power windshield moves throughout it's travel as it tips forward and then back again at the top the Tulsa windshield might solve a lot of problems that Vision riders are having with protecting our passengers.  Besides, the shape of the Tulsa just compliments the looks of the vision, here is how it looks on GL1500 and GL1800 Goldwings:

Here is the GL1500
