Ok, so I was packing my Nessy for a trip and I noticed the small "cubby" area just forward from the main right saddle bag. I know on the left side it is where the air shock filler is but on this side, what do you think Ma Vic was thinking? Here is a picture that highlights two "slots" or areas that could be used by a small door or cover. Was there any idea of a little door inside the main door?

My XM Radio module is mounted in that space but doesn't correspond to the slots.....good question.

That's where I keep a couple of small terry cloth towels and the lanyard badge holder I use for my registration and insurance card. The neck lanyrd is looped around the front hinge arm, works good, last long time-

I've been wondering the same thing. There are no corresponding notches or anything at the top.

The left side bag is a mirror image but with a door and hides some suspension parts I believe. Looks like you should be able to buy this door and fit on right side but haven't tried

This is outside the 'weather tight' area, correct?

Yes it is... It just seems that the engineers put those "slots" in there for a reason... Now, what could it be?

I'm not sure I agree that it is outside the "weather tight" area. Like above, my XM module is in that spot and I have never had any water issues from washing or riding...and I ride in plenty of rain. It would be intersting if there was a little door panel but I have never seen one available on-line or in a catalog.

OK, I'm going to backstep a bit here... It IS outside the main compartment that has it's own seal, BUT, it is inside the clamshell of the door that has another seal... Thanks HLUSN8 for keeping it accurate.

I used that spot to mount my Fuzeblock for connecting extra electronic devices like my GPS, Radar Detector and MixIt Amp.

If you have a second seal, one other than the one sealing the main compartment, please post some pictures, for I am surely missing some parts on my bike.

Ok, what I'm talking about is a plastic rolled edge across the top of the opening of the bag. While it isn't rubber (at least on mine) it seems to provide a "sealing" effect of at least diverting the water to the fore / aft of the bag. Here is a pic:

Also, (back to my original question) the left bag has the same cubby with "slots."  What were they thinking?  Has anyone put something in the rightside cubby only to have it fall out into the bottom of the bag?  It appears to have any "sealing" by the clamshell.

When I first got it, I thought it was the perfect place for my little emergency kit (flashlight, tire puncture kit, air gauge, etc.). Problem was that I didn't have a little bag for all of it so put it all in individually. Lost the tire gauge, and played heck trying to fish the flashlight out of there during a stop. I now stuff it all in a little bag, roll it up in a handkerchief, and it stays there just fine.
