Chesterfield, VA | I just picked up a 2011 VV yesterday, and noticed that the ABS light stays on all the time. First of all this is my bad because I should have read the manual closer before picking the bike up. On the ride home, I thought the ABS light should go out above 10 MPH, but wasn't sure.
The issue is that the dealer I bought the bike from is 250 miles from the house and the nearest dealer for service/warranty work is about 120 miles. So is there a circuit breaker, or any thing simple that may be causing the ABS to malfunction that I can check myself before having to go all the way to a dealer.
Also, as I understand it, the linked brakes should be working fine even with the ABS being out. Is this in fact true (they seemed to be working fine on the 4 1/2 hour ride home yesterday). I don't believ I'm doing any damage to the bike by riding it with the ABS not working.

Possible Cause Possible Remedy/Action
Blown fuse Check the fuses. See page 91.
Loose or damaged pulse ring Inspect pulse ring for looseness or chipped teeth.
Debris lodged in components Inspect wheel speed sensor and pulse ring for debris.
Damage caused by debris Inspect wheel speed sensor for cracked housing.
Damaged components See service manual or authorized dealer.
Beyond the above, I'm pretty sure that there are no adverse affects on normal braking, just ABS on hard stops. |

Ruskin, Fl | Unless they made a drastic change from 2008 the linked brakes are mechanical. When you apply the rear brake it sends hydraulic fluid to 2 smaller pistons in the front calipers. The linked system should not be affected by the ABS. As far as doing damage to the ABS riding with the light on, if it's like a car's ABS the light comes on to tell you there is a problem and the ABS is deactivated.. |

Indianapolis, IN | The brakes should be working fine, just no ABS until you get it fixed. Not a problem, don't panic, just ride it like it's an 08 or 09 and set up an appointment with the dealer to fix it. |
