With 9000 miles on the Vision, my rear tire still has a few thousand left. I'm not excited about the stock Dunlop E3's. My guess is,the general consensus is the same, right ? I checked into the Bridgetone Excedras, but didn't see the size 180/60r-16 that is on bike now. Those that have replaced their rear tires, what's the verdict on relacement tires ?

personally I'm very satisfied with my E3s, but I'm an odd guy to start with.

You need to buy the Excedra's that are Goldwing specific. Same exact size as the tires you have now. Search this forum for the part numbers. There is a night and day difference (for the better) with the Stones. I just sold my 08 Vision with Bridgestones and purchased a new Ness Vision with the stock E3s and I am hating life again... The Dunlops are WAY greasy compared to the Stones. I am losing rear traction now coming out of tight sweepers that I motored right through with the Bridgestones with 18 less horsepower and 8 less ft lbs of torque....

I also went back with the Dunlop E3's. Victory went with the tires originally designed for the GL1800 Goldwing. In the Goldwing community, the favorites seem to be the Dunlop E3's, the Avon Cobra's, and the Metzler ME880's. Several outfits sell tire pairs of these brands at pretty good prices. My last issue of Rider has a Donelson Cycles (St. Louis, Mo) ad with E3's for 319.90, Cobra's for 354.90, and ME880's for 344.90. Prices are for pairs and include shipping.

My dealer pretty much matched these prices, at my request, and charged me $330 for a pair of E3's mounted.

Thanks for the part # By the way, My neighbor riding buddy who also has an 08 Vision with about the same mileage as I, showed me his rear tire this evening. He doesn't check with this site regularly, (don't know why).Anyway, his tire is beyond bald, with the cord showing through on the left edge of the tire.We just got back from a 600 mile trip last weekend and he wasn't aware of the tires condition while riding. Apparently, he doesn't give his bike a pre-trip check! It's interesting how
there is such a difference in tire life among riders with the same tire, different riding habits will do it.

I have had very good results with the Avon Cobra's in the past and will put these on the Vision when due. I understand Avon has a near rear tire (Cobra) with a higher weight rating to meet or exceed the Dunflops.

BigAl, I have the Avon Cobra's on my Vision. They are actually rated just a couple pounds LOWER than the Dunlop E3 for the rear. It is such a small amount lower it isn't an issue for the Vision even loaded, two up and towing a trailer. So far they handle much better than the E3, no center strip on the front tire and wear resistnce seems to be pretty good. I'll keep folks posted at what mileage I hit replacement depth. One MINOR thing you will notice if you go with the Avons; You will feel the front tire tread at close to stop speed. A very slight shimmy due to the tread pattern. On the plus side it handles road checkering and metal grating much better at speed. The slow speed (just about stopped speed) shimmy isn't really a issue but I can feel it so I figure it should be mentioned. If you look at the tread pattern you'll see why.

My first set of E3's on my Vision gave me 16,300 miles. The air was kind of showing through on the rear one, but that is about double what I used to get with my Harley. The second set looks like it will make it about 15-16k miles also. No serious complaints here, but 40-50k miles with a car tire on the back sure has me tempted.

Loved them. I just wish they were load rated at 80. I hate the Dunlops with the corning whine, but that is all we have if riding heavy on 2-up.

I hit 30,000 miles today. Noticed by back tire is toast. I should have known since I haven't had a secure feeling in hard turns. It figures, I have finally got my belt alaignment perfect, now I have to mess with it again. Not only that, I leave on a trip Monday and return on the 16th. The 18th I plan on riding up to Deal's Gap. The guys at cyclegear ordered me a tire today. It will be waiting when I get back. They mount and balance for free, I just have to take it off the bike. That will give me a half a day to put it back on and get the belt right again. I figure no matter how much of a pain, it's not worth a flat, or worse, getting bit by the dragon.

Not sure if I'm ready for a car tire. My Marauder comes stock with BFG G-force. Great tire. The only problem is they made a special size just for the Mercury rear. It's BFGs or go to another size. Last time I needed tires they were on national backorder. Went down a size and went with Kuhmo.

I ran the Metzler 880's on my BMW LT and was very pleased. The Avons for the LT's had the same issue as described above. I think when it comes time I'll look Metzler 880 for the front and a car tire on the rear.

I am running the Metzler 880's and love them. My wife ride's so I am never 2 up and not worried about the load rating.

I'm about ready for second set of tires too. What was the car tire size that works well on the Vision? Are they OK for three digit speeds? Also I remember an oil filter mentioned on this site that works on the Vision.
anyone know those numbers?

If you just take the axel out, you should not have to change the adjustment on the belt. ET

i live in flat land illinois. just noticed after 8,800 miles or riding to work and home my tires are flat in the middle. i ride 10 miles to work and turn 4 times. most of my riding i dont have to lean at all. for my next set of tires i think it might be better to go dark side. maybe i would at least get more miles out of the rear that way without it going flat. what are your thoughts?

Thanks etspastimes. That's what I'm hoping. Ever since I had the pully powdercoated it had to be dead on or it chirps. I have had it perfect and when I tighten the axel bolt it throws it off just a tad.
